Getting my ICD...

Hey All,

Posted about 4 months ago when I was diagnosed with endocarditis and was informed I'd likely need an implant... Had a follow-up Echo and Nuclear Stress Test last week. Echo showed I still have a low ejection rate of 20. Stress test showed no signs of heart disease.

I see the Electrophysiologist this coming Tuesday.

Anyone have suggestions of things I should ask the doctor?

implant location

I need a CRT-D implanted. I am left handed and the EP mentioned that having it implanted on my right side may cause a problem because the lead will be longer. He is recommending it to be on the left side even though I am left handed. Anyone else had it on the right side?

I also asked to have the implant below the muscle. Has anyone had issues having it below the muscle vs. in a pocket below the skin?

Hello I have a 2 lead St Jude set at Miniumum of 6o BPM fitted 2 weeks ago, for the first week and a half all has been fine , and my lower heart rate has been a steady 60 + / - 1

For the last 2 or 3 days its been dropping to 50 +/- 1 instead of 60

I initially thought my Apple watch has having a senior moment, but i tried using a medical grade monitor, same thing.Last night 49 for 30 mins, the 50 for 2 hours, only went back to 60 when i sat up.

I called the hospital and...

CRT-D choice

My EP has suggested two companies and models for my implant this coming Monday...He installs about 60% Medtronic and 30% St. Jude...the other 10% are replacements where the implant dictates the same equipment as original...he has made it clear that he has no preference in the two models and feels they are both great technology and the the others are also good he just likes to go with what he knows best which are Med and StJ...The two models are Medtronic Claria DTMA1Q and St Jude Assurance MP...

ICD, Roller Coaster

Hello!  I have an ICD by Medtronic implanted since 2016!  No problems so far.  I am wondering if I can go on a BIG, FAST Roller coaster!  More specifically, the ones at Cedar Point, Ohio!  I have already booked a tour of the park with my best friend this September.  I am more concerned about the ones using magnetic force to slow/speed the rides up and down.  My cardiologist who installed it said I should be ok but I did not mention the magnets with him. &nbs...

ICD

In August of 2016 I had an emergency pacemaker implant.  All was fine and I was back to myself very quickly.  In January of 2018, my pacemaker was removed and replaced with an ICD because of ventricular tachycardia.  The recover was not so easy.  I had major swelling at the sight.  Now the swelling is all down, but the site is painful.  Also, You can see the device and what looks like leads.  I’m not so concerned about the look of the site, but the con...

ICD extreme tenderness & pain

I am 45 years old. I have had Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy since birth but, was not diagnosed until I was 13 yrs old.  Been on meds since then. I got an ICD on Jan 23, 2018 & am experiencing  EXTREME tenderness, pain in area & below of ICD. Can not barely touch it without pain & I get tingling & pain there. It is extremely bulged out.  Is this normal to be hurting there still after 4 months??  I am so sick & tired of it. I a...

iCD in power plant

New to the forum, first post.  After having an ablation done for a fib a few years ago, two weeks ago I suffered a ventricular tachycardia and had an icd implanted. I am an engineer in a power facility with two 4000 KW steam turbine generators as well as transformers, electrical breakers, diesel generators, etc. I am having trouble finding out if it’s safe for me to go back to work or if I have to retire two years early. If anyone has any input regarding th...

ICD Fired this morning 4:10 AM

Implanted Feb 28, 2018. I was told most people live a complete life with it never going off.

I called 911 and was taken to the local hopital, xray blood tests and sent home with. Well it did exacly what it was supposed to do and good luck, these things go off all the time.

I will call my GP and cardiologist on monday, but now I'm worried that things are just going to go downhill from here. When will if fire next, what can I expect? How can I go to sleep tonight?

CRT-D verses meds

I had a CRT-D implanted Dec 2016 after an electrical storm I was also put on 200 mg of ameoderon a day.

My question  is isn't the Crt-d doing the same as meds why do I need both.  Will the Crt-d keep my heart beating at the proper rate without the meds

Pacemaker may have saved my life

I am brand new to this forum, though I have been an avid reader. I decided to join because of what happened to me very recently.

I received a pacemaker after I went to the emergency room with erratic heart beats. Three weeks prior, I had a crash on my bicycle that included me blacking out. At the hospital, a cardiologist monitored me for 4 days and together we decided a pacemaker was what was needed.

Problem was, it wasn’t.

I went through al...

Driving?

Ugh.  My ICD just fired -  first time for this device -  second "appropriate" shock in 11 years -  (one other when  a recalled Medtronic lead broke, and two when a Boston scientific  device failed a mere five weeks after implantation - and the techs were messing around to see if they could get it to do anything - all they accomplished was shocking me twice before determining I needed a new implant..........)  -  any way -  I cannot f...

I had a ICD implanted 4 weeks ago now and I have felt 10x worse since the surgery, I'm a 25 year old Male, very fit and active before implant and now I can barely get out of bed longer then half hour.

I constantly have an odd feeling around the heart, it's hard to explain. Dizziness is more frequent then before.

I thought it was normal to start with but it seems to get worse as time goes on,

Has anyone been through the same thing, is there something wrong...

Shocked 24 times Almost DIED....HELP

My first ICD was a single lead St. Jude device.  This was put in 2007 due to having an episode of VT.  I was also told that I had Cardio Myopathy.  Installing the device was like an insurance policy.  That device shocked me 7 times by reading SVT as VT 2 years later.  The unit was replaced due to a low battery, got an infection, and an IV for 6 months.

The unit and the lead were removed in Nov. of 2013 and a dual unit installed on the right side  &nbs...
