Lead Implant failure and higher voltage?

My dad went through a pacemaker replacement surgery two days ago. He was supposed to get a CRT-D installed but the doctor couldn’t get the 3rd wire anchored. He took two attempts and my dad’s heart rate started to drop.

So the surgeon decided not to attempt it again and replace the old pacemaker with a lCD.

Now the doc is saying he’s getting a lead voltage higher than what was set. 3v instead of 1-1.5v. So he wants to do one more test tomorrow an...

Left arm color

Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since I had my pacemaker implanted.  I thought my left arm looked pinker than my left arm but tried to ignore it thinking I might be imagining it.  But today I've spent the day comparing my arms.  My daughter came over and I showed her.  She agreed that my left arm is definitely a pinker color than my right arm.  It's also weaker than my right arm and my shoulder has some slight pains.  I think those things are normal but I'm...

CRT lead implant failure

Hi there,

I have just come home from hospital after having been admitted for upgrade of dual chamber pacemaker to a CRT-P. My current pacemaker battery is running low, only a few months left on it. My electrophysiologist had to abort the procedure as he could not implant the third lead due to blockage in the vein. I therefore had the old pacer reimplanted until he talks with his team as to whether Icould have the CRT placed on the right side through a tunnelling procedure under general...

Pacer Safe Mode

I just had my biannual pacer checked and asked the tech a question about my upcoming thyroid removal surgery.  The tech told me since my pacemaker is close to where the surgeon will be using an electronic knife to remove my thyroid gland they will put a donut magnet over my pacemaker to speed my heart up since I have 3rd degree heart block.  The reason given is the pulse knife could interfere with my pacemaker and the magnet will be place my pacer putting it in safe mode during surg...

My pacemaker is shifting around suddenly

Hi, I'm new here. I found this forum looking for help with a problem I'm having, thanks so much for allowing me to join. Looking around, I can see lots of things that would be helpful, and I also hope to contribute whatever I can to help others.
About 6 weeks ago, I noticed my pacemaker turning onto it's side.... I could see and feel it sticking up.... as soon as I gently placed my hand over it, it laid back down in place. Over the next few weeks I noticed it slipping out of...

Presyncope post pacemaker

in June my husband had sudden Sinus node dysfunction that led to getting a Medtronic pacemaker implanted immediately. No symptoms before the first episode, healthy 72yo that only recently started taking a statin early in the year. Pacemaker implantation went well, and he was released from the hospital the next day. Almost every day since then, he is still experiencing the same feeling that he is going to pass out but doesn't because the pacemaker kicks in. He experiences some dizzine...

PM too close to shoulder bone w Update

Update 2: Two hours prior to surgery, Dr's office called and said insurance hasn't approved the repositioning yet. Cancelled until further notice. Yet, I'm supposed to continue living in this pain. The US medical system/insurance is broken.

Update:  Saw my dr today and they said it looks like the first surgeon implanted the PM too close to a nerve bundle causing the intense shoulder/arm pain. I will be having a revision tomorr...

Lead Extraction

Went in for a new pacemaker and a lead extraction of old capped lead.  Subclavian vein was cut and I bled out requiring 6 transfusions and CPR for 3 minutes. 10 days later I needed VATS Thoracotomy and Decortication lung surgery to remove the large plural effusion and blood clots.  I had chest tubes in both surgeries the heart surgery being the largest and most painful.  I now have intercostal nerve damage and intermittent nerve pain and constant numbness in my side a...

Pacemaker moving in pocket

I was diagnosed with joint hypermobility almost 10 years ago. No testing for any other connective disorders has been done. I have been finding my device moves 2-3 times it's size on all directions. This has confused my doctors and they have no idea what to do as they think it's the whole area moving they don't think suturing it down will help at all if it even keeps the suture intact. Lately I'm finding it's sitting lower in my chest (top of device was 2 fingers below coll...

Pulsing in arm / chest next to pacemaker

Hi all

I hope you are all well.

i had a pacemaker fitted right side in Feb this year with 2 leads, over the last 6 weeks i have experienced pulsing in my right arm / chest next to the pacemaker.

I visited hospital yesterday regarding this and whilst doing the test to the top lead in the right chamber, my chest started pulsing.

The Physiologist turned a setting off to prevent this happening as they said it is safe to do so.

I have woke this morning to find a...

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
