Placement of the pacemaker

My pacemaker was fitted 2 weeks ago... it was a complete shock. I knew something wasn't quite right, but wasn't sure what it was. I had chemo 2 years ago and it seems this has affected my heart. I'm a bit concerned about the location of the actual pm... it seems to be very close to my shoulder and I it seems to obstruct the movement of my left arm across my body... anyone else had this experience?.. thank you 😊

Flutters when pacemaker cuts in

I had a pacemaker implanted a month ago and am getting light flutters in my chest and occasionally in my stomach when it cuts in.  I've been told the pacemaker sets the voltage automatically at 125% of the threshold voltage for safety so it can't prudently get reduced. It isn't as strong as PVCs but can be annoying when reading and doing other quiet activities. Is this something that one eventually gets adjusted too or are my expectations too high? I cut back on my...

Tired

Hi, I received my pacemaker 10 days ago. My symptoms had been shortness of breath and being very tired. Also I had had 3 or 4 dizzy spells over the last year. Since getting the pacemaker the shortness of breath has improved quite a bit but I am still quite tired. Is this normal? I will be seeing my dr. on the 18th and the rep. from Boston Scientific on the 24th.

Alone?

Hello all,

I'm not sure if this is appropriate to post because it's not directly related to the pacemaker itself, but I'm just terrified and so afraid.

As everyone knows, my cardiac journey has been an up and down road. Recently, physical therapy and medication adjustments have helped keep the SVTs and general visual disturbances mostly at bay, to the point of experiencing them less and less, but still weekly.

Now the topic of my post...

Heart Failure

I’am a semi-retired 69 y/o female. Last Oct 31,2021 I took my blood pressure at home and my pulse was only 39. I work in a senior care facility as a Med passer/caregiver so as I would often take vitals on the residents I was used to taking my own daily, so I knew 39 was too low and something was wrong. I called Triage. They suggested I go in to ER. The ER doctor did some tests; an echo etc and told me I had complete heart block, I needed a pacemaker right now. I could not...

Pacemaker/defibrillator placement

I received my pacemaker defibrillator 5 weeks ago and I am still getting used to the location and the feel of it.  It seems very close to my armpit and I feel it every time I move my arm.  Will I get used to this?  Also I can see the outline under my skin and feel every ripple, so close to the surface of my skin.

thank you for any info

PACEMAKER IMPLANTED 2 WEEKD AGO

I had my pacemaker inplanted 2 weeks ago yesterday. I was supposed to see my doctor who is 2 and 1/2 hours away from us but had car trouble and had to cancel. Unfotunately my car needs a new alternator which we cant afford until my husband gets his SS check next month. 2 nights ago I woke up and my heart felt like it was racing. Should I notify the doctor of this immediately? I really don't know if I should be ultra concerned about it or not.

I dont have an extablished re...

Still Fighting The Good Fight

Hello all,

Figured I'd drop in to provide an update. After several rounds of SVTs and PVCs I was fitted with a heart monitor for 2 weeks. The results were lackluster.

My Cardiologist and nurse went through them page by page and noted nothing too concerning or crazy. Some times, when I pressed the button and logged my symptoms, my heart was functioning as expected/normal, while a few times in the middle of the night, they noticed it was elevated, but not alarm...

Going into Paroxysmal AF

This morning I have gone into AF and my CRT -P pacemaker has done that mode switch thing. My heart rate is steady at 70. I felt it flip in the same old way when I turned onto my left side in bed.

My heart feels different. Sort of like its pounding....a harder beat.  And I feel a bit wierd... lightheaded and breathless when I walk around. But I guess the beauty of this pacemaker is that it eliminates the irregularity. Also, It seems to be stuck at 70 even though they said it w...

Minor (I hope) setback

Life is sometimes a b'atch. I was starting to feel a tiny bit more energy--Was sleeping better at night & not napping dring the day, accomplishing more with both chores & liesure activities, feeling some kind of normal. Then, in spite of faithfully getting vaccines & boosters, my husband & I managed to get covid-19. I know that without the vaccines it could have been much, much worse, but it was bad enough for me! Slept for 2 days straight. Now I'm up & around but...

AF?

Hi there.

Still getting used to the aftermath of my Pace and Ablate procedure. (AV node ablation 19/7/22)

I'm still getting a few single ectopics and I've found out that my settings are currently DDD with a min/max rate of 60- 130.....Yesterday I was working and when I came home I was eating my dinner and I absolutely swear I went into AF except I didn't get that fast ventricular rate. I monitored my heart rate and it went up to 130, my max setting, but it wasn&#...

Update on feeling tired

There have been various posts on various topics in which the subject of feeling tired comes up. That makes me prick up my ears, because this is something that I have been dealing with for a while. I had my beta blocker dosage increased maybe a year ago, and it seemed to me that from that time I began to feel extremely sleepy. I felt like I needed to sleep not only all night but most of the day as well. My PCP and my cardiologist both seemed convinced that it was something other than the med (...

Is anxiety normal after years with Pacemaker?

Hi Everyone.

So I am a pacemaker dependent for about 34 years now with a dual pacemaker. One thing I seem to be suffering from is anxiety... but for some reason lately I worry about my health and future with this device... I am the only one in my family with this... so I don't have anyone to relate to... I do aim to focus on positive things but sometimes it creeps up on me. I wonder what should I expect as I get older. I am in my late 30's.

Thanks :)

not wanting pacemaker / anxiety?

sorry if i'm not posting his in the right forum, but i'm just feeling so lost and trapped, and i don't know who or where to look for answers. i don't technically have a pacemaker yet, but i'm getting one implanted inevitably.

i'm fifteen and i was diagnosed with third degree av block (complete heart block) within the last year. i'm asymptomatic to a certain extent, but have a low enough rate (39 resting) that my dx told me that it's basically...

WomenHeart

Hi All,

It's been awhile since I've been on the site. I found out about this organization that I want to share with you. It's called WomenHeart.

They provide opportunities for women with heart disease and conditions to connect. They also have a lot of information on their site about health. There are a few zoom meeting groups across the US. Here is the link to their website in case anyone is interested.

Anxiety returns

Hi everyone - I had a pacemaker implanted on 1 March, so just over four months ago. I struggled a lot at first with anxiety and depression - my GP put me on Sertraline 50mg/day (I've been on Amitriptyline 25 mg/day for many years and the Sertraline is in addition to that). I've also started counselling which is hard at first but I feel sure will help me longer term.

After 3 months I felt quite a lot better and resumed work - I'm self employed and do contract work from home....
