Wearing compression Stockings
Hello all, just a brief message to see if this works as I am having trouble logging in. Does anybody have to wear compression stockings? How to cope with this? Thanks for any support

My vascular dr. has told me for years to wear the stockings when sitting or standing for long periods of time. Esp. when traveling.
I suspect you are having to wear to make is easier for your heart not to have to pump the blood so hard in and out.
You should probably be on a low salt diet. Works for me not to have to deal with edema around my ankles.

My daughter wears them when she's working, she is on her feet a lot as a nurse. It helps keep the edema in her ankles and feet down.
She has had a pacemaker since 2012.

I do not have a requirement to wear compression stockings for any medical reasons. I did have a problem with varicose veins that were surgically removed (which is why I have the stockings). However, I still do wear them when I have the energy to put them on. I choose to, because I find that my legs feel better (less tired and less aches and pains) toward the end of the day. My energy level later in the day is also improved when I wear them. I am sure they improve the circulation in my legs. The problem with them is that they are such a pain in the butt to put on and take off. So I am usually just too lazy to put them on in the morning. Although, I gotta tell ya; if you are on your feet a lot, they really can help to give you more energy and less aches and pains during the latter part of the day!
When I bought several pair originally (they are prescription), the lady that sized me for them showed me that she wears them. I asked her if she had a problem like varicose veins? She said; no, I tried them, because I am on my feet all day. She said that I found that they really help to eliminate aches and pains and keep me going longer. So that is what gave me the inclination to wear them when I can.

There is no way I could wear them. Anything tight will be very painful. I was to wear a compression glove on my hand/wrist last year. That lasted about a day, until the pain just got too great. Even though it was about as little compression as they could fit, the pain was pretty bad and, of course, constant. It had to go, even at the risk of some more swelling. I've had the same problem with bandages to support my ankles. I wear my shoes loose and can't lace the top two holes of the sneakers (all I ever wear). Fortunately I don't need the stockings or I'd have a reat problem.
After my daily walk, my feet are actually smaller and hands larger. My shoes are even looser and I can't get my ring off my finger for an hour or two.

Agent, I guess what you are saying is that walking helps you with your circulation issues - is my interpretation correct?

That's my take on it. I've never asked about it but it makes sense to me. I haven't had a problem with adema for many years (when I weighed a lot more) but it was odd when I first noticed it. Unless it's freezing I do sweat a lot but drink more so it's not dehydration, I don't think.

I have two close friends who are nurses. They wear compression stockings all day at work even though they have no health problems. They say wearing them gives them more energy during the day and keeps their feet from getting sore from edema. They swear by compression stockings, and they say anyone who is on their feet all day would benefit from wearing them.

Wearing compression stockings

This appears to have worked! 77 year old female. Recovering from pacemaker in France and having to wear full length compression stockings I wonder if anybody else is in the same position? Thanks
