PM service

Morning All

I've bemoaned the quality of my local cardiology service before but I think it's hit a new low.

In 18 years, it's gone from local hospital 6 monthly face to face clinics to annual "virtual device clinics" i.e a download and a phone call.

A recent letter now says that I will only get a return phone call if the numbers don't look right.

So you could go years without even speaking to someone.

It's worrying when combined with...

Recovery Exercise Options

46 year old male very active and fit all my life and had arrythmia since I was young with no noticeable issues until the last few years, now after a junctional block forever grateful to the medical professionals and technology giving me back my lifestyle with a PM 2 weeks ago.

For rehab (since 2nd day after surgery) I have been doing a mixture of hill/step walking, assault bike (just legs) and lower bodyweight workouts (squats/lunges etc) trying to minimise any upper body movement...

Ascending aorta aneurysm

thank You πŸ™πŸ» Gemita...Good Dog....BFCM23...USMC....Pacer... for your valuable input πŸ₯°

I  follow all MEDICAL  interpretations on YouTube and that's valuable, but can't match lived experiences! Given that this ticking bomb is often discovered "accidentally " its even more important that we share the information πŸ™πŸ»

I also learned that except-able parameters about Aortic Aneurysm are changing, as Medical Fraternities are al...

Adding Hyperlink to our editor

Hi Craig, (DoingMyBest) has asked how I add hyperlinks to our editor, these are the steps that work for me. I do all my editing and spell check/grammar (USA) in WORD first.

  1. Copy the link from the https bar.
  2. Paste into a WORD file.
  3. Place curser at the end on the line
  4. Hit return: This makes it a hyperlink and turns blue.

Save the WORD file.

  1. Leave the WORD file open
  2. Go to Pacemakers c...

New pacemaker

I had the micra AV implanted awhile ago, but ended up needing to switch to a dual chamber pacemaker with leads. I just got the new one put in yesterday and am not sure if this pain is normal. Of course I have the usual pain at the incision site, but when I lay down or sit just wrong, every single breath I take is excruciating upon inhale. I told my doctor this and he was not listening to me and told me to give it 2 days. I just can't imagine this being a normal thing. Laying down is worse...

pending spine surgery

Hoping someone on this site might have had spine surgery.  Either the Kyhoplasty or the Vertebroplasty.   Did you have any problems?  Or was everything ok?

I beleive i would like the one that uses the balloon to block the glue from my spine.  Since i am sensitive to all glues.   The PA in the spine doctors office said i have a compression fracture and need to have surgery to fill in the space.  In order to hopefully not to have anymore f...

Post surgery restriction

So I had my pacemaker implanted 11/21. I'm still a little sore. For the most part I seem to be doing okay. I have my first follow up appointment tomorrow. I was reading through the literature that came with my Boston Scientific pacemaker. There is a list of restrictions on power equipment listed in the pamphlet. I will talk to my doctor at my follow up. I am a little concerned when I return to work. I work for a business that sells and services lawn and other power equipment. I work as a...

Stress Echo

Greetings all.  I have a stress echo this afternoon at 1 pm.  They said not to eat 4 hours before so I don't throw up.  I've only had one before and was not pushed to the point of barfing.  Haha.  I'm tempted to eat some eggs soon as otherwise I might faint, not puke.
im wondering what y'all's experiences were like and if it might be ok to eat?

thanks!
Lulu

Mild ascending Aorta?

Hello everybody!

Back in March last year I had Echocardiogram....not my first. All in all pretty normal, except they discover 39 mm dilation on the Ascending  Aorta. My cardiologist and others don't have much concerns this far!? Of course I have since educated myself on the subject  and I do have a lot of concerns ??!!

By nature I am not a  panicky personπŸ™€{thank God}..... but I am very interested if anyone in our Club  has thi...

Getting back to fitness

Hello there

I'm a 62-year-old, and until earlier this year I was pretty fit, did 1 or 2 5km runs each week and walking/Nordic Walking a lot.  I started getting dizzy spells in the Spring, and in August was diagnosed with complete heart block and fitted with a Biotronik pacemaker.

I've found it really hard to get my fitness back since, often feeling tired (although not dizzy) especially on steep climbs when hiking.  On these occasions my heart rate...

Pacemaker movement

Hi everyone,

was diagnosed with breast cancer in April of this year and as I need radiotheraphy had to have my pacemaker moved to my right hand side. When i  am 9n my side the pacemaker protrudes out of my chest and i can put my f8ngers around the side of the box. When my pacemaker was on the left side i could only vaguely feel the top. Is this normak or ok?

thank you in anticipation of advice.

Difficult Surgery

I had my ICD fitted yesterday and it was an incredibly traumatic experience.

I was supposed to have dual chamber ICD fitted by due to complications they could only get one lead in.

Basically, whenever they tried to place the lead in certain positions I started to feel my throat close up, like I couldn't breathe and started getting dizzy. The only way I could describe it is slow suffocation.

The first time it happened I tried to wait as long as possible before sayin...

Colchicine and statin

Newbie here - thank you all for this club and forum.

I had a PM implanted 2 months ago. Been having several issues which are another topic. One is suspected inflammation. The doctor just prescribed colchicine, a double dose (.6mg x 2/day). The pharmacist said there is increased risk of muscle breakdown and other serious side effects when taken with statins.  I am already on 15mg of Atorvastatin. I don't want to trade one set of problems for another. Anyone have experience with...

Pacemaker and Cancer

Are there any distance runners dealing with heart and cancer issues? Four years ago I had a pacemaker implanted. It probably took until this time to psychologically adjust to it. That includes other heart procedures as well. Just a few days ago it was confirmed that I have polycythemia vera, a blood cancer. Is there anyone who runs dealing with these twin issues? How are your medical conditions effecting your running?

Omega 3 fish oil - again!

I have checked the archive for previous comments on Omega 3 fish oil supplements, and there are a couple now more than ten years old.

I wondered if there have been any recent updates or new research findings to clarify the utility of this supplement?

I am aware that my diet is probably deficient in this regard, and am thinking of starting on 1000mg per day for general health and possible lowering of BP and triglyceride levels. Your observations would be most helpful. For info, I a...

Lightheadedness

I just got my pacemaker on Nov 2/23. I was suffering from lightheadedness & like my heart was skipping a beat. I noticed that it happened mostly in the morning and at night. Sometimes as much as every ten minutes.

However today I noticed it wasn't happening when I had my cpap machine on. So I decided to focus on my breath without hyper-ventilating and no more lightheadedness!

I hope this might help someone.

This is a great site!

I thought I was out of the woods

Hi folks, well i have what you call paroxysmal afib and up until the begining of the year it seems I was getting it once a month and it would last roughly 5 hours. August was the last straw and instead of pill n pocket(fleccidne) my EP started me at 100m. 50mg morning/night. Since I started fleccidne for the past couple of months my afib has been at bay until this morning at around 4 when it woke me up from a sound sleep.  It kind of just sucked the life out of me, I was hoping medi...
