I'm 66 & had pacemaker for 1st time 10/23/13 left side. On 1/5/14 my entire left arm/hand got swollen & still is. I did get a hard bump on 1/4 on upper left arm but had not pain that day or next. Blood work, ultrasound were normal. Fam. Dr is trying to find an orthopedic Dr for me to see. I've had no other surgeries . Pacemaker was due to long pauses in heart beats. I have no other conditions. Any advice?

Dear People: I hope that I am not being unkind to require so much time from all of you. You have been wonderful to allay some of my fears and worries. My dear husband is showing some signs of improvement in his overall condition. He is on Xarelto 15 mg at suppertime for his DVT and that's all the doctor thought was necessary. I have read and researched the internet to see if there is anything to be done to help eliminate the swelling. The swelling has gone down in his upper arm and the vein...

Hello all,
Well its now just under 6 months since my PM saved my life. Many of you were kind enough to respond to my initial posts and for that I will be forever grateful. You all helped me so much. Thank you for that!! I am doing better, of that I have no doubt, but (isn't there always a "but"?), I am still having episodes of shortness of breath on exertion. For example, walking my dog and having a conversation while walking, climbing a flight or two of steps, sometimes just talking on th...

Thanks to so many people for their advice concerning the problems my dear husband was having over the weekend with swelling in his arm. Some advised me to get him to the ER, and I so much wish I had taken him there; but on the advice of the NP on call for the weekend, she had told me that the amount of swelling he was having was normal. Well, it wasn't!! We did get worked in today at the heart institute where he had the surgery and after ultrasound it was discovered that he had clotting in hi...

I am 43 years old and never had any heart issues and got slammed with 3rd degree heart block and had my pacemaker installed on Oct 22nd, 2013. I also had an infected tooth that went undetected for 2 months prior to my heart blcok--I think that was the cause of the heart block, but still no answers from the doctors--they say it was hereditery/born with it and they do not know.
I have been experiencing light headedness, shoulder pain, neck pain and I have been taking everyone's advise....

Thanks to all who posted about my dizzy feeling. I just want it to go away and I guess with me continuing the shoulder/neck therapy it will get better with time. I am glad it is nothing too serious and I will try to manage the best I can. This is a process for all of us.
As for the tooth I had pulled--It started out as a root canal with a crown in June and by September I had to have it pulled and then my pacemaker was put in on Oct 22nd. Yes, I was on antibiotics for both the ro...

Starting three days ago I started feeling a thumping in my chest which seems to be in rhythm with my heartbeat.. started in my right side near the diaphragm. The next day it stopped for a while, then resumed but this time on the lower left side and then it stopped. Today the thumping feels right under the pocket where the CRT is installed. I had an appointment but when the thumping stopped I cancelled it because it was an office I don't usually go too pretty far from my house. I am concerned tha...

Hi Everyone
I went into the ER end of August 2013 and went into Cardiac arrest. They found my ejection fraction was 15%. First surgery seemed to go well until diaphragm paced for 9 hours not pleasant)so they shut off lead. Went back in1 week later and repositioned lead. 2 weeks later got a major infection was in hospital for 11 days on IV antibiotics for 4weeks. In hospital they of course took out infected device and attached a device to the outside of my chest. Had to go back in for surger...

I have to admit that my PM installation went without a hitch in any way, absolutely NO pain in any way (guess I'm blessed) and no post implant complications as far as pain or muscle problems. I was implanted one day, kept for observation for one day and discharged at noon. Within an hour of arriving home I was out in the yard pruning shrubs. I'm left handed but right eye dominant. Being a hunter I had the PM implanted on my left side due to rifle recoil to my right shoulder.A little less than a...

I have non-obstructive HCM, AF, left BBB, an enlarged LA, Bradycardia and frequent PVCs. I have had three ablations in the past four years for AFib and AFlutter -- the most recent ablation in August 2013. I had a rapid aFib episode with syncope less than one month after my last ablation. At the time, I had an implanted loop recorder. My recorder showed a life-threatening rhythm that they believed caused the syncope. It was the first bad rhythm on the recorder in almost four years -- and my first...

I'm posting on behalf of my 63 year old mother. She had a Biotronik PM implanted in Aug 2012. For 17 months she has been dealing with burning sensations as if her body is on fire...in her chest, up her neck, down her back, around the ears, down the legs, etc. She literally says she sometimes smell an odor like metallic. The burning has been so bad it has broken the skin. She has peeled her skin as if she had sunburn. We have been referred to several doctors..neurologist, endocrinologist, e...

Hi,
I am a 67 year old male with a medtronic pacemaker since April 2013. I have no heart issues other than bradycardia from A/V block. I was never symptomatic though an electrocardiogram showed my heart rate was 25 bps. My pacemaker is a lower limit switch set at 50 bps. Over 50bps it is shut off. I have run all my life with decades of 40-50 miles per week and up to 70 miles per week when training for marathons. I now run about 30 miles per week slowly just to keep some semblanc...

On Dec. 9, I had a pacemaker placed for a slow nighttime heartbeat (under 40 beats per minute). Almost immediately I had shoulder pain. Doctor told me I was using my arm too much. The pain felt like I was being stabbed. This continued off and on until the Friday before New Year's. During this time, I was told over and over that I was using my arm too much. At one point I was told I probably had shingles. Then I collapsed. During the ER visit, it was found that a lead had pierced my right ventric...

Don, you mentioned that the flecainide/atenolol combination
is known for producing tiredness. I appreciate your generous
response, but am wondering if there is any more you would
say about what you have heard about the combination.
