Hi Everyone
I went into the ER end of August 2013 and went into Cardiac arrest. They found my ejection fraction was 15%. First surgery seemed to go well until diaphragm paced for 9 hours not pleasant)so they shut off lead. Went back in1 week later and repositioned lead. 2 weeks later got a major infection was in hospital for 11 days on IV antibiotics for 4weeks. In hospital they of course took out infected device and attached a device to the outside of my chest. Had to go back in for surgery to repack etc. First surgeon on vacation when I was in hospital so got a different one that put a new pacemaker/ICD in but Dr was adamant not to attach the LV lead which is the one that makes you feel better.Implanted the device on right side this time because of infection. Two weeks later to atrial lead detaches. He says doesn't want to go back in because the life saving lead on the RV is still working(he thought). So after his appointment we had a pacemaker check. Was about to leave hospital but decided to ask DR a question. He was really glad to see me because I had also had an Xray done earlier and he saw that none of the leads were working. Immediately admitted to hospital for yet another surgery. Went home. Never felt good after the surgeries. Always tired and out of breath. Told them the device is moving a lot but they dismissed it. Mentioned numerous times. Decided to go to May clinic for second opinion. They could not understand why LV lead was not attached. We decided to have them do it. Felt 80% better after surgery than I have in ages. 3 weeks into it (just before Christmas) LV lead detached and other 2 pulled back some. Went back to Mayo 4 days prior to Christmas and had surgery. Different Dr my Doctor on vacation again day of surgery, but before he left he found that my device was turning 180 degrees and coiling up wires which pulls them out. Implanted device between muscle this time. Which was 3 weeks ago and have felt terrible since. After surgery everything had good readings next day not so good, which I now find out they say the LV lead and atrial lead had already slightly moved. went to pacer clinic Wednesday for a check and adjust settings because diaphragm pacing when laying down sometimes.Ended going back on Thursday because Diaphragm was pacing when walking all the time. Made more adjustments but could not find anything good. Now I am in a holding pattern, not sure what I will do. I have a call into Mayo Clinic to see what they suggest. Know one has every seen anything like what is happening to me. I do not look forward to yet another surgery, but I want to feel better and be able to walk upstairs and just walk so I can go grocery shopping or whatever.Wish me luck!!

I am sorry you had to go through all you did. We share the distinction of being in the 1% club. My doc at Mayo said there was about a 1% chance of infection after a PM insertion surgery. My hospital stay was similar- 10 days. The 3x daily repacking the explant site was one of the worst things I had to endure.
Like you, my new implant was sited on my right side. It isn't placed as well as the original. It rubs my shoulder and clavicle but it is healed. I will put up with the discomfort until I need a battery change. After going through an infection I would never consider a surgery to relocate just for comfort.
It's crazy what you have been through. Just stay strong! Hopefully your doc will figure out a way to correct the problems you have with leads pulling. You hang in there. Take care. Keep us posted.

I hope you start feeling better. You might want to move to Columbus, Ohio. Heart doctors there are best in USA. (In my opinion.) They got everything right the first time in spite of the fact I was unconscious.
If you are able, I'd start looking for a cardiologist who doesn't go on vacation all the time. And your experience doesn't bode well for the Mayo Clinic.
I hope you start feeling better and are able to get some help.
