can my heart beat too fast?

i have a pm for complete heart block set at 55 bpm at rest. what i am wondering is that because my pm is used to stop my heart being too slow, will it not keep my heart from beating too fast due to a chemical or hormonal problem... e.g. if amphetamines or antidepressants are taken and this causes an increase in rate or blood pressure?

help I am freaking out about my last check

When I went in for my last check up, my doctor scheduled me some tests because I had not been in for over 2 years. He said that these tests are to see if my pacemaker helped my heart go back to a normal size. I had an echocardiogram. I know the operator can't really tell me anything but I asked if it was better or worse anyway. Sure enough she told me from what she had seen it got worse. I have to call my cardiologist Monday and I am freaking out because I don't want it to be chf, like I am alm...

re positioning

Hi All,
has anyone had their pacemaker moved, I need to get mine moved, had it implanted in June this year, and it sticks out, Dr said it could cut thru skin and that would be a problem as its hard to clear up infections from that, it also flips over, well almost aobut 90% when Im asleep or lie on my side, its like flipping a box of matches on its side, dont think it ever embedded properly. Also it aches most of the time.

Good morning. I got my PM in August of this year. I have felt GREAT!!! The past couple days, I have been sore at the site. Any feedback?

Also, with winter coming, does static electricity affect the PM?

heart failure an a-fib

thanks for the comments I see the heart failure doctor wed. and will ask questions, my ejection fraction is 45 it was 13 before Cleveland did the 3rd lead but as you know I am in a-fib all the time and they claim its not causing harm I cant find anything on the internet saying a-fib causes no heart problems? Pacemaker allegy

I had a dual lead pacemaker installed end of May. Surgery went well and I did well. Mid July I started with itching and hives over certain parts of my body. Went to my internist and he prescribed Allegra, benedral, etc. nothing is helping. Finally thought, "could I be allergies to pacemaker metal"..,I have no clue. Bumps, itches, etc, keep happening. Never had this before pacemaker insertion. Any thoughts from anyone.. Thank you

@ 4.5 mo this is rotating about 90 degrees each time I turn on my side (which I prefer to sleep on) so it has never really bonded. The area is tender ... maybe from the rubbing? The lab said give it a few more months, but I started wrapping an ace bandage around my chest at night to hold it in place so it will have a chance to get 'seated'. Time will tell ... I'll try it for several weeks.

Issues after fourth PM

Hello,
I had an ASD repair at 2yo and received my first pacemaker at 18. I am now 45 and have a very active lifestyle. I typically hike 30 mi. a week up steep terrain and spend the winters skiing. A day after my fourth implant I could barely make it up a set of stairs. I have had atrial tachycardia that lasts for up to 3 days (120bpm) four times and meds dont work in breaking the arrythmia. Flutter feelings in chest

I have had my pacemaker about 5 years.It was put in for complete heart block. During that time I was using it once or twice during the year. Last year it was 6%. The past couple of weeks I have felt like a fluttering in my chest and an uncomfortable feeling.I went to emergency and on the ecg my heart was being paced 100%. I am not sure what this means, but am having an echo and bloodwork on Friday.

Radiation

I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and have had a lumpectomy. 16 treatments of higher dose radiation (rather than 33)are to be scheduled soon. I am to have my PM checked before during and after the treatments are done.
I just wondered if anyone has recently undergone this treatment and how they felt. Did it cause any complications with your PM and how did you feel?

Extraction

Hello all
My pm is being ex planted leads and all on Friday the 14. I have researched the whole London market for specialists in lead extraction and have a lot of info if anyone needs it. I will hopefully report total success after the op. I have to stay in hospital for the duration the infection clears and then have a replant. I have been through every emotion under the sun. Any thoughts what might be causing my diaphoresis

Hi. Overall have had a rough month, had to be admitted to the hospital twice. In total I was only out of maybe 5-6 days in October. First had trouble with persistent hypotension owing to increased Carvedilol trying to suppress PVCs. Then I went back for severe abdominal pain which the gastroenterologist said was due to ischemic injury to my liver from cardiac decompensation. Micra Transcatheter Pacemaker

I am in a study with the new Micra pacemaker. Installed two weeks ago. I have a Wenckebach - Arrhythmia. The pacemaker was originally set at a heart rate of 50. I had problem so it was reduced to a rate of 40. I still had some issues but it was raised to a rated of 60. I have dizzy spells, pacing problems and some shocks. Amiodrone & Zocor

Hi
I have my ICD 2-1/2 years already. And all has been well dispite the horrible side effects of Amiodrone. Now the Dr tells me the Zocor 20mg that I have been taking for 14 years cannot be taken with Amiodrone. I saw somewhere on Webmd the min. for statins is 10mg. when taking amiodrone. The Dr. changed to Lipitor but it is terrible on the kidneys. Can anyone please make a suggestion or tell me what they are doing or taking.

Pacemaker herniation?

This is my second pacemaker in 5 years (dual chamber, intramuscular) and I am about 2 months post op with new leads and new pm. # 2 was also placed intramuscular.

Yesterday while crawling into bed, left elbow bracing me as I turned off the light, the PM popped thru the muscle at the left side like a hernia! Freaked out, I shoved it back in. Obviously I am going to tell my doc, but has anyone experienced this ?

Shortness of breath

My husband had a pacemaker fitted three weeks ago for total heart block. He is at this moment in hospital having tests for his onset of breathlessness and heartburn-like pain since having the PM fitted. So far all tests have resulted as all ok ((blood chest ct scan PM check etc). They don't know what is wrong but this forum is full,of people with same complaint so what is going on.
