I had my Medtronic Biventricular PM fitted on 8th October and the pain is now becoming less as each day goes by.What I want to know is-Is it normal for my arm to feel really heavy/achy and sometimes a bit tingly too?
Also I am worried as I still have restricted movement & specifically....I cannot reach my right shoulder with my left hand because the pacemaker unit prevents me from doing this. It feels a...

palpitations

Hello,
I just had a PM inserted (under emergency conditions) on Sunday. Came home yesterday. Am amazed at the increase in my energy level, although the surgical site is VERY sore since I had it implanted under the pectoral muscle. My only complaint is occasional palpitations every once in the while. The beats are very strong. It occurs on the bottom of my heart. It's the same feeling I had when they were testing my PM right after insertion and I was still on the cath lab. Is this normal? I...

Pacemaker Placement

Hi,
I've been reading this site for the past three months after I was suprised to find out I have 3rd degree heart block. I am scheduled to receive my pacemaker this coming Wednesday (and I am terrified). I had myocarditis which is resolving (or for all pratical purposes resolved according to my dr's) and we were waiting to see if it would clear up the block, which it didn't. I'm not having any symptoms, heart looks fine according to echo's, MRIs, etc. There is a chance that it is congenit...

Post op pain and discomfort

Hi there

I had my dual chamber PM fitted on 25th July 2012 due to Tachy/brady syndrome. I have recovered OK and feel much better. The world is a different place when you are not lightheaded all the time. My question is this, how long does the discomfort and pain last. I have quite a bit of discomfort from the device and it can be very irritating and annoying. I also get like sharp stabbing pains around the incision site and what feels like a pulling or a stretching. I sometimes c...

New pacemaker

Just had a pacemaker two days ago due to 6 second pauses when heart stopped. Heart stopped during tests on Wednesday and taken into surgery the next morning. So I don't know make, model, etc yet. I do have a Biotronik device beside my bed that at 3:00am each morning it transmits data from my pacemaker to a data base for review every morning. Any advice on what I definitely should not be doing now. I am doing practically nothing to give scar tissue time to build up around the leads and device to...

Incision healing

I'll be 3 weeks post op on Wednesday. I have a Medtronic Sure Scan RVDR01 for bradycardia that resulted in a complete heart block. I'm 40 years old and very active prior to PM implantation. My PM is sub-pectoral and the incision was glued and not stapled or sutured. My incision is still raised quite a bit above my chest. (Noticable through my clothing)

How long did it take for the rest of you to get to the point where your incision was flat? As I'm still young and female I'm not thri...

new pacer

Thursday I had my St. Jude dual chamber pacemaker implanted. Friday noon I came home. So far I have not had one pain pill and I am cooking light meals. My shoulder is a bit tender and I am tired but my constant buzz headache and dizziness is gone. Looking forward to seeing what being active is going to be like. I thought I was heart healthy with low cholestral and low blood pressure until I found out that it wasn't the heat that was making me faint!!! I am still trying to figure out what d...

Portable ECG

To any pacemaker Dr. specialist:

my father (76 yrs. old) has a pacemaker since last July. I am wondering if it fine to buy him one of the portable handheld ECG devices. He is a retired surgeon in Latin America so he will understand ECG. However, I am not sure if this is safety at all.

The products that I am talking about are: ReadMyHeart Handheld ECG, InstantCheck, etc.

Some of these allow the use of lead and no need to place the device on the chest.<...

Surgery Next Week

I am a 34 year old with Malignant Vasovagal Syncope and will be getting a pacemaker next Wednesday. The doctor told me I would be out of work for a week and unable to resume my running for about 2-3 months.

Just curious how the first few days and weeks go post surgery?? How long did it take people to get back to running?? (I was 40 days away from running my 1st Marathon when my condition changed enough that I need a PM).

I am also worried about how my children are going t...
