help

I had a pacemaker placed under my breast on Nov. 26th This is my third pacemaker and the pain from this surgery is a lot more intense than the others. The incision its self is not to bad, just tender, but there is an area an inch away from the incision that hurts so much! I don't know if its nerve damage or what, but I can't seem to get anyone to take it seriously. All the des and nurses just say I should not be feeling much pain anymore and that I should be able to resume normal activity after...

Catheter Ablation

Well everything went really well.......heart mapping on the Wednesday, then procedure on Thursday. The Ablation took 4 hours which seemed really quick as I had a general anaesthetic. The St Jude pacemaker technician was there to adjust the pm heart rate whilst the procedure was happening. No pain from the procedure itself however recovery from the anaesthetic took a while. The professor said the op was successful however now have to wait to see if AF returns. I was discharged on the Friday howev...

Waiting for my pacemaker

Hi,
I found out a week ago that I am getting a pacemaker, my cardiologist has put me on the urgent list and told me I should be in before Christmas. Just wondered if anybody else has been in a similar situation, and how long did it take for them to contact you?

Also what tends to be the recovery time? Christmas is my busiest time of year at work, and am often required to be rushing around...I would like to give my managers a rough time scale of my return!

Thanks :)

Done

My mom called it a band-aide surgery and it sure is some of the time. It takes a lot out of you though. Got to the hospital at 6AM like they asked. I was the 1st one of the list so it shouldn't get delayed at all. Got wheeled into the operation room around 7:50. Cardiologist came in around 8:05 and the procedure went underway. About 40 minutes later I was out of the surgery and into the recovery room. My husband came in soon after. Once I was awake enough I ate my lunch that they had giv...

It is here

Tomorrow is the day that I get my 5th PM in almost 30 years. My 1st one was when I was only 7 years old (turned 8, 2 months later). I am excited and a little nervous. I will be awake for the whole thing and I get to go home to recover in peace. I have been wanting this change for a few months now and it finally got to the ERI mode on November 15. They are squeezing me in to have this surgery. I don't know if they say that to all the patients but it works for me. Haven't had any problems w...

I just got my ICD swapped out today. I also got it relocated at the same time.
very happy with the results. No more visible wire, except for the swelling can't tell I have an ICD anymore.

I do admit there is more pain, but worth it.

NEW

Hi,

I'm new to all of this. Just got an ICD implanted a week ago. PLUS this is my first time in an online support/chat group.

I wore my sling, keeping my upper arm "glued" to my body from shoulder to elbow for the recommended 3 days. Am now without it in the daytime but still wearing it at night for a few more weeks.

What I'm wondering, is aside from not raising it above my shoulder or putting it behind my back (fastening bra, etc.) how much freedom of movem...

Discomfort in chest after CRT-p

5 months ago I had a crt-p fitted , last month it was realised that 2 of my leads were not working and 2.5 weeks ago had to have them reconnected, I feel so very uncomfortable(not painful). it feels like a tight band across my chest, I suspect it is the leads that are pulling. When I went into Theater it was found because pm was loose in the pocket the leads had gone around the pacemaker 9 times which made the leads come out. (if interested google Twiddlers syndrome, I never touch the pm site a...

What should I be concerned about?

Hi there! I just received my PM on 11/11/13. As with many of you, it is not known as to the cause resulting in my PM. It has generally been a fairly easy recovery, but I have noticed some neck and shoulder pain, and I seem to have more symptoms during the night. I have been taking Ibuprofen, which helps, but how long does this type of pain/tension last? I have been a good patient, but the disruption to my sleep makes it a little rough going, especially as I look top go back to work. Just wanted...

Post PM Valve Surgery

Recent echocardiogram shows moderate aortic stenosis and moderate mitral regurgitation. Not sure yet if I will need valves repaired or replaced. Anyone face these surgeries and know what impact it has on PM already in place for two years? How much surgery can the heart take? All thoughts appreciated. Not scheduled to see cardiologist until January.

PM for A-fib. Tips?

Hi there, I'm a newbie on here and I'm after any insights/watch outs ahead of a consultation to discuss insertion of a pm.
I'm a spritely 38 years with two very active boys aged 8 and 12. I had SVT when I was younger, cured instantly with an ablation 11 years ago. I've been active and fine until the beginning of this year when I started getting increasingly prolonged bouts of a-fib (average 10-14 hours), with second degree heart block thrown in randomly. These episodes wipe me out for days...

New Pacer

Hello Everyone- I have been reading the messages for a few weeks now and have just joined the club after having my pm put in on 11-13-13. So far so good! Breathing is better, a little muscle pain in the shoulder neck area but not bad. I have a type 2 Atrioventricular Block. My doctor said I am a little young (43) to have that, but it happens. I asked if there is anything I did or eat, etc that caused it and he said not really some people just develop it. Has anyone ever had any other reasons giv...

Feeling Depressed

I am an active 56 year old who received a double lead pm for av node re-entry and LBBB. I am so depressed from a comment I received yesterday from my son's teacher. I have struggled in the past with this. I don't know anything else to say except I am tired of reaching out.

Is general anestheia required?

Have replacement scheduled for this Thursday Nov.14th. I am told my lead is good (I am a single lead). Would like to know if anyone has had a replacement with local anesthesia? If so are you awake during the procedure? Seems it would be a lot safer than being put to sleep. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share.

Depression after 3rd surgery

I am 19 years old and was born with a 2:1 heart block which has gradually increased to a complete heart block. I had my first pacemaker implanted when I was two years old(shortly after I was diagnosed). I have a duel chamber pacemaker and always have had. When that pacemaker had depleted, I underwent my second surgery at 10 years old.
Recently I had to have my 3rd pacemaker surgery in late October (the 29th). My recovery has been great, I just had a follow up with my surgeon and they could...
