Doctor Selection

Hi! I'm super-grateful for this forum.

I'm male, 45, 6'6", 210, athletic with diagnosis of Bradycardia, Av Block, 1st Degree, Second Degree Av Bloc, Right Bundle Branch Block.

My question is regarding the possibility of finding a doctor who will support an active lifestyle (surfing, swimming, nordic skiing, rowing, triathlons.) My original referral for an EP seems to be the most accomplished and experienced in the area, but not super-athletic. In mentioning any kind of acti...

inversion therapy

A neighbor of mine swears by inversion therapy, where you hang upside down to help with back issues. I'm wondering if there is a problem with pacemakers or blood thinners. Can it cause a stroke?

Thank you

Sport shooting

I enjoy trap shooting, but haven't done any (shotgun) trap shooting since I received my pacemaker. Does anyone shoot shotguns or big bore rifles having a pacemaker installed?

Trying to get active again

I got my pacemaker in 2011 when I was 24. Before the pacemaker I was very active - constant trips to the track and a few programs like P90X. After the pacemaker I pretty much shut down. I gained 80lbs and was so in my head about things I couldn't even jog up a flight of stairs.

I have finally come out on the other side of things and have been going to the track again. I still have to work to not be too paranoid. I would like to work back up to run a half marathon later in the year.....

Running On Empty

I have been running 35 years and have had a pacemaker (St. Jude) for just about 6 years. My running, never great has really fallen off and I am running w/walking breaks due it seems to (abt. 3 miles). This has gotten worse as my pacwemaker battery is wearing down. My wonderful Dr. has suggested that maybe a different pacemaker would help. I am just trying to get info on whether this could help and what other manufacturers are out there so I could make an informed (hopefully) choice.

Rowing quest to Sarbear

Hi Sarbear,
Thanks for your message! Did they place yours in a specific way different from the usual? If so please share. jzfagan@aol.com. The doctor is sympathetic to an extent but says the placement has to be as he always does it. It's tomorrow!

Rowing?

I am the wife of an avid competitive rower (age 60) who rows daily during the season and who is about to get a pacemaker put in on Monday. His doctor is willing to let him try rowing (after recovery of course) but is wary about it. Rowing is huge to him. I found posts from people who work out on the erg(ometer) but not posts of rowers who were able to row after getting a pacemaker. Are there any rowers out there who were able to continue post pacemaker? If so would love to hear from you!!!

Dual-sensor VS Biotronik CLS for biking, etc.

I will be replacing my current pacemaker soon, and thinking about what to replace it with.

My heart is too slow and won't speed up: bradycardia and chronotropic incompetence. (And there's a 2-1 AV Node Block at 115 bpm.)

I'm 60 and active. I mainly bike. But biking has been frustrating because my heart rate stays low because my pacemaker doesn't help. That's because my current Medtronic pacemaker has only a single-sensor, an accelerometer. I also run, and my pacemaker works...

Harm in professional sports

So I'm a 18 yr old and I had pacemaker surgery done in last Oct. My question is whether in general there is a large degree of 'chances of harm' in learning a professional sports like tennis or swimming, particularly. I can wait for some time, but I really wanna learn and get qualified in some sports.

How soon is too soon?

It's been about 1 1/2 weeks since my pacemaker implant. I would like to start some exercise: just walking. I guess I am afraid to allow my arms to swing naturally while walking for fear that I might dislodge something! I tried to walk on a treadmill with natural arm swinging (no vigorous arm swinging!), but after a short while, my pacemaker incision site began to hurt a bit. Did I start exercising too soon? Mind you, I only walked moderately (3 mph) for 1/2 mile! It looks like it's going to be a...

Became a blackbelt despite my pacemaker !

I recently became a blackbelt in taekwondo. I believe the first black belt with a pacemaker !!The instructor always reminds the students to not make contact with me or they will face lots of push up. So far nobody has gotten them. I am also in warfarin and yes , have been bruised by accident. Never the less I really enjoy it so I encourage those who want to take a martials to speak with the instructor and ask how they feel about having a student with a pacemaker in their class.

"Wareable verdict

So what have we learned from talking to the experts of heart rate tech? Well firstly, if you’re serious about your sport and data today, then steer clear of the wrist monitor. It’s a great way for entry level runners and fitness fans to take control of their plans, but for tho...

Recovery Heart Rate

New member with a question about factors impacting Recovery Heart Rate (how fast HR returns to resting level after exercise).

Background: 68 yr old male, >50 years competitive distance running and bicycle racing, Medtronic Protector XT DR installed after V-tach episodes beginning 2012. V-tach ablated Aug 2015, started using bicycle indoors on CycleOps trainer about 1 month ago after 1 1/2 years of no biking at all, only walking.

Kayaking after icd

I had an ICD fitted at the back end of November 2015. Prior to this after a couple of collapses, for which there was no diagnosis, I was referred to the cardio rehab gym. I completed this course and my focus was to get back to kayaking, I kayak for pleasure both sea and fresh water, no competition.
After my implant I was referred back to the gym and now the physio tells me I can no longer kayak at all. Just wondering if anyone else kayaks and whether they have been told the same thing. I am...

It may be the first time we've felt a normal heart rhythm in a long time, so of course it seems too fast and too strong.
