Sport shooting

I enjoy trap shooting, but haven't done any (shotgun) trap shooting since I received my pacemaker. Does anyone shoot shotguns or big bore rifles having a pacemaker installed?

I love sporting clays. As long as the butt isn't right up against your device or leads, it's ok. Mine is on the left and I shoot right handed, so not an issue.

Unless you use the shoulder opposite your implant device, you'd be risking damaging the device. You have probably seen pictures of a pacemaker or other heart device. They have a plastic header on the top where the lead ends are attached to the device. This plastic header can be broken off or damaged in turn affecting the continuity (contact) between the leads and the device. By allowing a high powered rifle, shot gun, or other weapon with a recoil to rest against the area of your device while shooting you risk damage. May not happen the first or thirtieth time, but highly likely it would.

I started back with the BB gun first, The next week it was the 22 rifle, A little later it was the 556 rifle, and then the 410 shotgun. I get a little pulling on the left side of my chest with the 12 gauge so I have only shot 10-20 shells but. I am positive I will get back there. I have no problems with the 16 gauge or 20 gauge. Maybe you should by a new shotgun LOL. Just trying to help with excuses to buy more toys. Good Luck. I don't believe I would ever shoot a shotgun left handed, that is the side the PM is on. The Comment above this, the author was pretty spot on.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but Evoshield sells guards specificaly designed for shooting. I actualy used it to play field hockey and it really does cover the pacemaker area.

I am just thankful that I am alive and that even though I have this pacemaker it is not the end of the world.
