This "panting" I am doing after 60 seconds, 50 RPM, on the Giant exercise bike . After a total of 180 seconds or so , I finally stop, having burned all of 18 calories .. I hit 19 calories , once, last week...
The PM was implanted last July (St Jude 2 wire) .
Age ? 76
Weight ? 158
BP ? 164 / 44/ 68 .. .. 10-15 minutes after the exercise . . and my hands are still cold, even if its 71 degrees F here in the drafty old media room .

An excellent response, with a lot of heart, mind, and soul .. I will discuss these things with my nurses ..No doctor ..VA care .. I'd guess that the rate response is ON , but, as I do have high systolic and low diastolic, the RR is set "low" .. My cardiologists says very little ..other than . " all is fine" ... and , with my so-called memory, I enter the "doctors office" in a blank state .

Some PM's will increase based upon movement and/or respiration rate.
If your respiration rate isn't changing and your body is not moving significantly then a static cycle may not work well for you.
Pulse and Diastolic

The Giant (brand name) bike exercises both the legs and the shoulders ... and the heart as well ... Exercise and activity cause the diastolic to drop 10-15 ...55 to 40 or so ..and the pulse to increase from 60 to 67 - 68 ...
I wish I knew why I seem to "run out of breathe" so easily ..Even as I walk 200 feet , I am panting , but I still have the energy to go much further, and puffin and huffin even more ..
I think., I'll stop this exercise for a time .
You know you're wired when...
You forecast electrical storms better than the weather network.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
Exercise and pacemakers

You need to make sure that the rate response function is turned on for your pacemaker. This ensures that the heart rate increases as you move about ( for most pacemakers this is the case).
Cycling in a static position is not the best way of getting the body to move. It may be that a little bit more bobbing around the saddle will help.
The secret is to start off slowly, as the electronics lag behind the mental process if you are keen to exercise.
Start off very slowly and give your pacemaker more time to catch up with you ( having made sure that the rate response is switched on). Your blood pressure is a little high - this needs to be discussed with a doctor.
You should also have your circulation assessed.
If you have not exercised for some time, as you get older, it takes longer to develop the soft tissue stretching necessary for deep breathing.
In the UK we have cardiac rehabilitation nurses who ca offer an opinion as to the safe way of building up exercise for people with heart problems. Such advice is invaluable. Enough fit blokes have gone to run a half- marathon and have died in the process. Your medical problems ( ? medication, blood pressure) needs to be sorted prior to exercise for your own safety.
Kind regards,
Selwyn
