Hi all,
I was diagnosed with SA Node Dysfunction this week after several syncopal episodes, and had a PM placed. I am an active duty Air Force Captain with 5+ years remaining on my commitment. Are there any members of this community who have insight about what to expect in terms of medical review board and what my prospects are for being retained for service?

OMG, I just read a response by DonR to someone regarding a pacemaker and how they work, and while dozing off from the lengthy, scientific, though accurate response suddenly realized he's ElectricFrank reincarnate.
Welcome back Frankie !!!

I just ordered a motorcycle intercom yesterday to keep in touch with my motorcycling friends. I really did not think about the pacemaker when ordering it so I am doing well!
I know we should be wary of mobile phones next to the unit but what about bluetooth intercoms? The unit will be about 6 inches from my implant site. I always keep my mobile on the opposite side of my body in a waist pocket.
After 19 months of being 100% paced I can't say...

Thanks to everyone who has taken the trouble to answer my query. I have now been to my doctor and as I’m on blood thinners he does. Not think it can be a clot, but to be sure he is sending me for a dtv scan on Monday. I’m still swollen once I’m walking on I but it goes down overnight
It’s vet reassuring to be able to ask advice from other pacers

My cardiologist is electrophysiologist?? But i will take advice and look elsewhere for advice. I thought I may get some support and good advice from this site about my reliance on a pacemaker and have been pleasantly surprised how some people have answered my post and I thank you .. the last post I had advised i go to another site and that this site is for pacemakers.. t hats put me completely off and this is the reason I take care of myself and rely on my own judgement.. thank you...

Hi.. long while since I was here.. had pacemaker installed Sept 2012 and now after numerous drugs and many bad times I have reached my last option. Have fast AF for days and now feeling I'll with them. PM great for stopping heart going slow but no cure for fast heart rate and irregularity.. I am trying to gain faith in my PM so I won't panic when ablation is done quite frightened of being totally reliant on it.. my head is full of what if's!!! I've had no support over th...

I had my pacemaker fitted 8 weeks ago, but recently my left ankle swells up during the day the last few days I have had a pain in my calf
This may be due to the hot weather but it is only 1 ankle the right one is fine, has anyone else had any problems with a swollen ankle.

I’ve been having episodes of racing heart this summer, usually lasting hour or so. My Pacemaker is set to prevent low heart rate. I live in the (hot) Midwest. Anyone have this if exposed to 85-degree-plus temps?

Hi,
I'm new to this club.
Few weeks ago I had a major problem with my pacemaker. Its battery depleted totally. I'm paced 100% of the time and I was very lucky to have survived.
The depleted device was returned to the manufacturer and I was told that there was a problem with the battery insulation. When it failed it had been implanted for nearly 8 years with no problems whatsoever.
The only indication I had that something could have been wrong was when I had the...

That happened 2 days ago and nothing since. Seemed unusual. Called the doctors office today and they did not seemed overly concerned which is fine. They will tell my doctor and will contact me if I need to be seen. I have also been light headed, especially in the morning. Has anyone had this shock by their pacemaker. Thanks.

I’m a 69 year old female, & my dual chamber pacemaker was implanted on Monday, 6/25, due to bradycardia. Feeling foggy, slightly dizzy, slight headache. Is this normal? Stopped taking pain meds on Wednesday, but taking Prednisone Pack for recent knee replacement, Losartin & HCT for BP. Had been taking Verapamil for tachycardia for several years, but Doc took me off of that on Monday, pre- surgery. Appreciate any info. Thanks, pmp

I have to make a major change in my life because of my titanium-terror!
My old Dad never wore a belt, always braces to hold up his trousers. (Our pals across the pond wouldn't understand this!) I am the same, I always hated belts, often hitching up the trousers as they gradually slide down, so except for trying belts for a short time it's been braces for me too.
The day has come, I have ordered a new leather belt that will get to me on Saturday.
For some time, I have...

Hello!
I have had my pacemaker for almost 3 years now! Ive been experienced a strange pain/feeling in my pacemaker area! It's almost like a pulling type of pain, if that makes sense! Just wondering if anyone has ever experienced any type of weird pain, pulling sensation or anything like that! :) It feels especially weird when lift my left arm over my head or stretch it out!
Any input or help is appreciated :)

I suppose many of us have what happens to me. Take into account that I am at the upper end of middle age at 81. I wonder how you cope?
The latest occurance was when I was standing in my kitchen waiting for the microwave to "ding" with my dinner. Suddenly I felt lightheaded and faint. So I took a few steps to the nearest seat and put my head down low between my knees and took my pulse with a phone app, it was 151bpm.
As soon as the pulse settles to "normal...

sitting here bored out of my mind and contemplating the meaning of life, a thought crossed my dementia enhanced mind. Remember back when we were kids and or a childish adult member whose initials are Ian but shall remain anonymous, and we would taunt and torment one another with incredible claims doing our best to outdo one another? We'd say ridiculous things like: I can jump the highest - or - my bike's better than yours - or - my mom's prettier than yours -or- my hall monitor ca...
