I'm learning to take life easier now.

I have had 'A-Fib' for 4 & 1/2 years and was put on Diltiazem once a day, I have had maybe 4 attacks of A- Fib during that time.
I have always been a type A personality (Hyper) very independent, always on the go. do what I want when I want, no one to answer too. just go, go, go, push, push, push.

Then on January 21st I was on my way to my eye Doctor, I wasnt feeling all that great, but just couldnt put my finger on to why. I made a few errand stops along the way, and as soon as...

Extra Powerful Hand Dryers?

Those hugely powerful hand dryers in restrooms are not on any no-no list, but they seem quite over to top in safety for me. Without thinking the other dary, I stuck my hands under them (in some you put hands IN them) and immediately jumped back, as it felt like this should be avoided. Most home small appliances say to keep the motor 6" from the PM device. On the hand dryers, your chest and hand are right up next to air ject. Comments?

It is a great day

I just want to thank everyone for your stories, courage and living life to the fullest that each one can do. I can see now, after 5 months with a PM, that I have been very lucky with my recuperation. I have mentioned before that a lead made a hole in my heart and emergency open heart surgery took place right after PM installed. So with that surgery, the painkillers and 3 days of IV antibiotics took care of "problems". Basically after a week of surgery, I have been very good energy, health a...

new here

Hello everyone. I just had PM surgery on 2/17/14. This was very unexpected and came about so fast my head is still spinning. About 2 1/2 weeks ago I was sitting on my couch looking at my phone when I started to feel like I was about to pass out. Next thing I know I heard my husband saying something about 911. I asked why he was calling 911 and he told me I had passed out for about 10 seconds. He said he was trying and trying to revive me but I wasn't responding. He first thought I was havi...

Was feeling good...

hello everyone!

I am new to the site, I had my PM inserted on 02/11, first week was not so good, however last week I started to feel better and better to the point that Thursday and yesterday I could have swear that none of these happened at all, went to work ( just a few hours) went shopping and even barbaque with some friends at night. However last night I woke up around 5 feeling exhausted all my body felt like a truck ran over it, I had to spend all day long today in bed...

Passed out pooches

4-Oct-2013. Am walking my son's dogs on a pet trail when I collapse. Died in the ambulance. Wake up six days later from a coma. Cracked rib, broken rib, collapsed lung, re-re-separated shoulder from CPR. Have a chest tube. Have a pacemaker. Surprise!

Six days in Intensive Care makes you as weak as a six month old baby. Needed two people to help me stand up. Walking two steps was exhausting. It took me eight weeks to be able to walk up the twelve steps in a second story buildin...

Extra beats?

I had my PM fitted 3 weeks ago and I am still in pain, especially at night. Had to have a further dose of antibiotics which helped apart from the HEAVY feeling and pain in my left armpit, my fingers are swollen every morning too. I make a real effort to relax my muscles when the pain is too much. Part of me thinks that I think about it too much, part thinks it is my age (67) but I am getting quite depressed about the recovery period. BTW does anyone else have increased heart rate whilst travelli...

Finding it strange.

Finally have a surgery date of Mar 6th. CRT-D. Since Feb 9th, I've had pneumonia. Finished a 10 day course of antibiotic on Wednesday. Had preadmission clinic on Monday. They said we're still going ahead. Yesterday I saw my GP. She said that I still have pneumonia & put me on another 7 day course of antibiotics. She was surprised that the surgery is still scheduled for Mar 6th.

Well I guess I just hope for the best & get it done. Waited too long for a surgery date. Any comments?

Merlin@home and broadband

I just got Merlin@home transmitter for my SJM Anthem programmed as a dual chamber. YOLO friendly suggestion:
To make it work without a landline - plug any USB 2.0 adapter into your Merlin paired with your "n class" wi-Fi router ( that you already use for internet access i.e. 802.11 b/g/n standard ) and you are set. Cost = $35 for life.
Here is where SJM took a BAD FALL on their business model: the corp. can either charge you $16/mo for a cell phone adapter = $1,920 for 10 yrs (avg. bat...

Wired!

At least with a monitor for a month! Hopefully this will pick up what's going on. The last week has been kind of challenging because I've been really tired, lightheaded etc I've also been waking up in the middle of the night with palpatations and a slightly racing heart! It's sending data about every hour for about 10 min! I'm not pressing the manual event all that often but hopefully it's all showing up.

questions

don't forget to check FAQs there are many of the answers already there from the important to the just curious. The polls are also interesting. I've had my PM since Dec. I like the feedback I've found here. Many are helpful, even cheerful. I've been a glum chum, but, knowing others feel much the same helps. I was a miss super fit chick and I feel that ability coming back after not know why I didn't feel good. Friends are here ask away!!

probably stupid question

But, my normal HR is 41 - 46, when I say normal that is what it runs at work and averages for 24 hour time frame. As I have posted before, (hate to be a PITA) but one more question. Not sure, but lets say they set the pacemaker to 60 BPM. How does it do that? Add 20 bpm? Override my natural pace and just take over? Will i feel the difference?
Again sorry to be a PITA, just starting to freak out...

Heart rate measurement

At my last interrogation, my EP mentioned that I had a few tachy periods with heart rate up into 200's, however, I did measure my own heart rate during those episodes and often measured less than 100's, perhaps some 90's or even high 80's. I used the blood pressure monitor, or take my own pulse manually and/or used the pulse oximeter. And I didn't have any counts that go up to the 200's like my EP mentioned. She went on to confirm that the pacemakers don't lie and have very accurate measureme...
