Extra Powerful Hand Dryers?

Those hugely powerful hand dryers in restrooms are not on any no-no list, but they seem quite over to top in safety for me. Without thinking the other dary, I stuck my hands under them (in some you put hands IN them) and immediately jumped back, as it felt like this should be avoided. Most home small appliances say to keep the motor 6" from the PM device. On the hand dryers, your chest and hand are right up next to air ject. Comments?

Totally agree

with Don. At first I thought I experienced something but it was just my anxiety in anticipating something happening. Now no problem.
So far I haven't come across anything that affects my little buddy, including the hand dryers. I've used all sorts of appliances, wireless devices, electrical devices, powered garden equipment and nothing.
If in doubt, approach slowly and if you ever did feel anything then just back away.

......Don is right...Mfgrs do not wish to put themselves at risk.
This Forum is no stranger to those who ,..and this may well be another debate,..have concerns...be it Screen Door Magnets....Microwave Ovens...Induction Cooktops...Hey !!...SunFlares............
KNOWLEDGE is key,..and forgive this view..
No one should have to pay for knowledge.
Civilisation develops Culture..Culture insightfully invents Health care....
Maybe the question here is...as Don may have implied..
Who has the true key about all this ..??
Who , on this wonderful Forum..REALLY thinks / feels that they have, on a personal level,..really ..all the answers to this question ??

I don't know about other stuffs, but I can speak from my own experience with the body weight scale with fat measurement feature, especially when its battery is wearing out. Anyway, this happened to me last week, when I stepped off the scale, a few minutes later, it kicked me into an episode of arrhythmia. Before you say that it's my imagination or it must be due to something else, I assure you that it's due to that darn thing. Anyway, I googled and researched it and found that Medtronic called that out specifically to not use that type of scale.
Medtronic also list other appliances that MAY or MAY NOT affect the PM, but for the digital scale with fat measurement, they specifically put that into category of NO use. Don't take it lightly.
I wish you all well.

Thanks to all

I will check the Medtronic list on this and maybe use wads of T.P. if I get nervous around the blowers :-p . I'm on week three and really need to get going on walking a whole bunch for the mental stability and emotional freedom as much as for the leg muscles. So far, so good!
Shouldn't be a problem

Tooter:
You don't have your PM brand listed.
I've got the Medtronics. Have put a rare earth magnet used in the magnetic name tags directly on my PM. Not a problem. Zilch, nada, nothing, zero. Didn't feel a thing.
Forgot about leaning over running car engines when I jump started my daughter-in-law's car. No problems, didn't feel a thing.
We have people posting on this site who work in power plants and who work on diesel electric locomotives with no problems.
All are a lot more magnetic influence that what you'll get from a small electrical motor and some heating elements.
Most of the things you'll run into either in the home or in the general public area will have no effect on your pacemaker.

The few things that say we should keep 6" away? Most of that is precaution and we don't really have to keep 6" away. That's the lawyers talking. New pm's are very well shielded and we don't need to be concerned about anything around the house, etc. It's commercial motors and magnets we need to be careful around- power plants, arc welders, giant generators. Live your life and don't worry about it.
The very worst that can happen is you put it in test mode until you get away from the magnet. There is a little switch inside. When we have it interrogated, the thingy they put over it is... drum roll please... a magnet! it pulls a switch closed and changes the mode so it paces at a steady rate. When they are done testing, they remove the magnet and it goes back to full function with no harm done.If we happen to get near a magnet that's too strong, that's all that will happen, a few seconds of test mode.
I will have been paced 20 years on May. I run with my ipod clipped over my pm, read in bed on my ipad with magnetic cover on my chest, talk with my cell phone on the same side as my pm, my router is next to my desk, jump started cars, ran the generator during a hurricane, I have traveled the world, have toured power plants. I've never once had a problem. I pace every beat and have a very low underlying rate so I'd know right away if I ever put it in test mode. The longer we have it and feel good, the easier it is to trust it. What you are going through is normal! But really, there's no need to worry.
Info Updated
by flutetooter - 2014-02-24 11:02:08
Sorry about not having my info listed. I filled in all the blanks but neglected to check the box "update Information". :-( Thanks to all for making me feel more secure about all the "hazards" so I don't feel like I have to dash out of the store doors. I'm glad I already swam with the dolphins years ago, so don't have to worry about upsetting them with my beepings now. Been there, done that.
It is three weeks now and most of the time I forget I have a PM. My incision is totally closed also, and I have the doc's O.K. to go into the therapy pool at the gym tomorrow and just moved gently. It was good to know what they did at the last pacing session as far as putting my PM in test mode. That explains a lot. I forgot to ask for a printout, but will do so next time. I need to be informed. I am on the Boston Scientific study for VITALIO MRI compatible PM and will get the test MRI on April 2.

I swam with dolphins, too! There are pictures in the gallery. Some members have reported the dolphins reacted to it but I was up close and personal in the water with 3 of them and nothing happened.
Enjoy the pool!

You are being hyper sensitive to things electrical. I use them all the time - no problem.
Do not feel strange - it is not unusual at all to feel that way. The lawyers that write the cautions for the Mfgrs are protecting their boss' wallets. That's what they are paid to do.There is very little in your house / Apt that can or will affect a PM/ICD.
