Chest pain while flying and lead extraction

hey everyone,
I have a couple of questions, 1. I have noticed since my replacement PM 2 yr.s ago that every time I fly on a jet I get intense pain over my PM, which is on the left side, which travels up my left neck to my head and also travels down between my shoulder blades. It truly hurts, it feels like I'm having a heart attack. It usually stops once on the ground or shortly thereafter , I saw my MD today for an interrogation and he said he had never heard of such a thing. He said th...

thank 4 ur support

I just wanted to express gratitude to all those who read my depression message. I went to a therapist who put me on a mood stabilizer that actually appears to be working! I guess geting heart disease, a defibrilllator implant, getting dumped by an abusive boyfriend and recovering from alcoholism in the matter of months registers as "a major issue" LOL=) Thank you people for all your wonderful support..I am so greatful today=)

Medic Alert ID

Hi everyone!
Someone had suggested that I should get a medic alert ID (bracelet).
I was wondering if any of you wonderful folks could give me some advice on whether it is necessary or not and whether you use an ID or not.
I have an ICD and I am also severely allergic to Penicillin and Codeine. I have never gotten a bracelet so far because neither of those drugs would typically be used in an emergency.
Thanks!

Hello There - I'm New

Hi there all you pacemaker wearers out there.

I'm new to this site today. What an amazing site. I didn't appreciate that a site like this existed. I now don't feel alone.

I was feeling a bit low and deflatted today, after having a pacing check with my team in Dorset. They informed me today that my battery needs replacing again. The pacing team in Dorchester are totally fab and we've had a good chat today and I feel at ease again.

I had my first pacemaker put...

Lead placement

Hello,

I posted a response in answer to the lead placement question and my post went really wonky.... sorry.

The leads do wind around in places before they get to our heart. I would click images on a google search and key in pacemaker placement and you should find some web sites that explain the leads, etc.

The Cleveland Clinic used to have a really good image and information about lead placement and pacemaker placement, but they have completely redesigned their...

CA Regulations re: ICD

The requirement in CA has been for many years that a physician report any patient who has lost consciousness regardless of the reason. A form is available just for this. There is no specifc disease or condition stated other than "loss of consciousness", epilepsy. An ICD is never mentioned in the regulations. A person who is rendered unconscious may have sustained brain damage - lack of oxygen to the brain - and can possibly no longer be safe behind the wheel. In the hospital setting we see man...

New Pacer - Adapta DR

My 22 month old son, Max, got his new generator and leads last week plus they repaired a hernia caused by the first implant at 1 day old. His new pacer is an Adapta DR model (epicardial/abdominal) and I am excited to read about it's stated ability to reduce the impact of long term pacing on the ventrical. He also got 35 cm leads to replace his 15 cm leads that had stretched too short from growth. He is 100% dependant. He is doing very well and though clingy and uncomfortable, he is well mana...

Pacemaker bulging out!

My son is 21 months. He has had his pacemaker since he was 2 months. At 5 months it was moved from his left side to his right to make room for a g-tube.

I noticed this winter that it was bulging out. But, now it is WAY out there. It looks like he has a tangerine under the skin. It has changed. I called this morning and now we have an appointment with a surgeon tomorrow afternoon. It doesn't seem to bother him. But it is really soft?

What do you think? And do y...

wondering about lead placement

i assumed that the leads would go from PM basically straight into the heart but i had a peek at my x-ray which was recently done because, believe it or not they may have placed the lead in the wrong spot-i swear i'll give them a good......- anyway the leads went from the PM far over into my right chest cavity and looped back to the heart(i have about 2 feet of wire in there) Is this the way its supposed to be?
thanks

Why??

I 've got LV <30 EF, 100% occluded [R] main coronary artery and 40% occlusion of the [L] main coronary artery. I Died during the EP study, then I had a atrial pacemaker, ventricular pacemaker, difibrilator with built in heart monitor installed.
My question is why are they not trying to clear the arteries??
I am not taking any medication for choletorol or anything.
Have they decided I'd probably die during the procedure or doing the procedure wouldn't really prolong my life??

Hospital cost absurdity

I had my implant surgery on December 5, 2007. I finally received my hospital bill on June 13, 2008. Seven months seems like quite a delay. No details, just a one page bill for just under $2k (representing the balance of my annual deductible and a copay). They will be sending details in response to my request. From correspondence with my insurance company - the billed list price from the hospital was about $114k. Insurance only paid $27k. $84k was the negotiated price reduction achieved by...

doing very well

Hey guys,
I know i've done a bit of whining during the last 10 months, mostly about feeling pacing (usually during sleeping and waking me up many times per nite). But during the last 2 checkups they made adjustments that improved it to the point where I hardly notice it. YAY!
Mine is for syncope.
Lowered my minimun rate from 60 to 50 the first time, still pacing about 12-20 times/nite. Then lowered my pacing from 120 to 100. and adjusted one of the leads to hardly kick on at a...
