Removal of pacemaker

Hi all

This is my first post I am wondering if any members have had their pacemaker removed due to heart recovering and able to work on its own?

Also do you ever have a pacemaker replaced ie every 10 years or is it a small Nick to change the battery only every 10 years.

Ehlers-Danlos?

I have EDS (hypermobile type) and had a pacemaker implanted about 6 months ago.  I still have quite a bit of pain in the general area around the device which is not suprising given that healing tends to be slow with EDS. The pacer also has moved quite a bit despite a suture that was supposed to tether it in place.

Does anyone else on the forum have EDS? If so, how has it affected your life with a pacemaker? Any advice would be much appreciated!

Has anyone ever had to switch from Kaiser to a different insurance?

Hey everyone! :)

I have a question about insurance! I'm currently paying for Kaiser out of pocket and due to financial hardship, I couldn't pay the last month and it got canceled. :(

I should have had a yearly checkup for my pacemaker in September but I was put on a waitlist, and then that's when my insurance got canceled, before I could even get an appointment.

I'm very paranoid over not having had my checkup, but I just got a new job that provides their own...

Do they remove it

Hello everyone I'm new to having a pacemaker. I have a Biotronik that was put in in May of this year after major open heart surgery. My current physician said that my heart could repair itself as time goes by. The pacemaker is on just the lower part of my heart. If it does that do they remove the pacemaker when the battery starts running down or do they just replace it and leave it in just in case it goes back to not functioning correctly? Also the place that runs it through it's test...

Heart rate monitor with large digits continuously displayed?

Hi,

I'm looking for a heart rate monitor, worn on the wrist, that would continuously display heart rate in a large, easy-to-read font. One that, once you get it into the right mode, you can just glance at your wrist to easily see your current heart rate, without any further tapping or pressing. It's fine if it needs a chest strap to go with it.

The Polar FT1 is an example of the kind of thing I'm looking for, but they don't make them anymore.

Unfortunately, t...

Fevers

Has anyone every noticed that when they get fevers, their hands and feet get extremely cold.  I'm been under the weather with a nasty virus and it so strange, but as I get a fever I notice that I lose my circulation to my hands and feet and they get freezing cold and numb.  I'm assuming all the blood is probably going to the core of my body.  This happened a couple years ago to me when I had strep throat.  I would literally begin to get numb hands as my fever climb...

CRT-D causing SOB

It's been amost a year since my device was placed. I've been experiencing problems off and on since then. Including, abdominal  muscle twitching and spasms with weakness in my left arm and SOB. Strangely, it goes away for a month or two then it returns. Has anyone had similar problems. It's very positional. If I bend over or in a crouched position, if I twist my body I feel weakness and can barely breath. My doctor has blown me off for a year. Has anyone else e...

Removal of pacemaker for end of life decisions

I am likely to be recommended for a pacemaker within a month or so.  My question, which I couldn't find discussion of here but redirect me if it is,  ...  is that a time may come in my life when I will choose end-of-life over poor quality-of-life.  If necessary, I'll try to use the Swiss services.  However, right now my quality of life is good, and I expect it to continue for some years.  If/when I reach a time when quality is not sufficient, and I wish t...

CPAP Mask Strap magnets...

Has anyone heard about this and better yet has anyone discussed this with their cardiologist?

The straps on CPAP face mask have magnets as connectors.  So far what I have read is that as long as the magnet stays at least two inches away from you pacemaker you are good.  I am not sure I can guarrantee it always stays that far away while sleeping.  I hope so.  I mean if I bend my neck to the left it may get close.

What is reasonable to worry about for infection?

I recently have been freaked out by a post I saw on social media where someone got bitten by their dog and developed an infection that went to their pacemaker and now they have to have device and leads removed. It wasn't this that freaked me out, but rather the woman who this happened to said that her doctor told her she should report in for any kind of bite or scratch!

I sew for a hobby and I have a cat. I am clumsy and always cut myself chopping vegetables or graze myse...

Have received Barostim device

I had Barostim device implantation last week.  It was more painful than I had thought it would be (I'm on my 3rd device--PM, 2 ICDs). The generator was placed on the opposite side of my ICD under the pectoral muscle.  I also have an approx 2" incision on my neck where the lead from the generator was sutured to the carotid artery at the Barostim nerve.  The lead was tunnelled from the generator to the carotid artery....did not involve implantation into a vesse...

Hi

*waves*. New to the club.  Had my pacemaker put in a week ago.  It was a bit of a whirlwind.  I had a syncope episode at work one day and after much testing and monitoring I was diagnosed with an irregular/abnormal heartbeat.  And so here I am :)  I am still learning and adjusting.

I found this site while googling around with one of my many questions.

Capture Threshold

Had my pacemaker interrogation this week. Every time they do the RV threshold test, I feel like passing out, dread and panic. It's super brief. They know I have no escape rhythm. They took it to 30 bpm to check. They do this every interrogation. The tech did make a note that I am sensitive to this test. The tech and cardiologist said they have to do it. They both said this is how I would feel without the pacemaker.

My sinus node works but is completely disconn...

my final update to Ian

At 3:30pm ESt today finally internet and Tv restored.  Has been out since Tuesday about the same time.  My home did not suffer .  Only one front downspout and the garage light tilled.  Did have electric, land phone and of course cell.

I am quite weary from both not sleeping well and have to rake up the fallen leaves and some short branches from the neighbors trees.

Not sure what the pacemaker thought since was defintely more excercise.  Then it...
