I signed up for 2 5k's today. The first is October 26 which is 4 days before my official 4 weeks is up. It's an easy neighborhood road course, mostly flat. I'll clear it with my Cardiologist at my appointment next week. I'm sure I'll end up run/walking it after not running for a month but I need to get back into it for my sanity. The second one is November 2nd and is a difficult trail race with lots of hills, sand, roots, etc. It is the race I trained all summer for. I know I'll have to take it...

Hi I have 37 years and have had pacemakers and 3 operations. For various problems they put the pacemaker in the left side and the last time they put on the right side. I wonder if I have any risk if I play tennis now that I have a pacemaker on the right side. Thank you.
PLEASE HELP

I searched previous posts and found lots of questions about resuming riding motorcycles, but no answers. My husband will be having rotator cuff surgery and will need the car. I am happy to take the bike, but not sure when it's ok. I don't have doc appt until January. Any advice from Harley riders? I have an 883. Thanks !

Hi
Just wondering if anyone knows what happens with the higher settings during exercise. I have a Medtronic dual lead rate responsive pm fitted for bradycardia and sinus pauses. I had my first check and tweak last week and now have a lower setting of 50 and a top setting of 170 to accommodate my running. When I wear my garmin hr monitor it shows me quickly getting up to 170 then flat lining. It did the same when my top setting was 150. Does this mean I am beating at 170 whenever I'm r...

Nearly 4 weeks since PM fitted and I am still wary about lifting with my left arm. What experience has everyone had with this, how careful do you really have to be and for how long. Hospital advice seems very vague and generic. Hoping to get back to cycling and cricket soon. Cycling no problem but the cricket not sure about. Any views?
All the rest is OK, I certainly seem to have better heart function with the left/right synchronisation, though still have some bruising on my chest and...

Completed my first half ironman with pc end of September(second time total) after having it implanted end of May. No problems at all - except during peak allergy times - where from time to time I experience a light-headed sensation ...... last only a very short time but is a little worrisome.....any ideas, thoughts?

I am 23 and have had my pacemaker since I was 15. I went into ERI last week and felt it immediately-- I'm locked up at 65 bpm and it's VERY frustrating! I am going about my life as normal but not doing anything to exert myself which means no heavy lifting, no running, no working out, etc.
But 4 weeks without exercise or sex isn't my favorite thing in the world so I'm looking for a little insight (or perspective.) My boyfriend has been with me for 4 years and he's not pressuring me or...

Hi - for those of you who have read my previous postings you will know that I have been in a dilemma on whether to have a pacemaker or not as i only need one if I want to carry on running or do strenuous exercise. Well I have finally made my decision -I am going to have the pacemaker and have been provisionally booked in for 17th October to have it fitted. I know a few of you will think I'm mad for having it done but I think the majority of you can understand how my quality of life is affected...

Hello Everyone,
I am new here. I am 57 years old and had a Biotronik DDR Talos implant ( dual chamber) a month ago because of Sick Sinus Syndrome. I am doing well so far post operatively and in fact I am back to work. I regularly play tennis before I had this PPI but my concern now is I was being prevented by my cardiologist to play tennis for fear of lead fracture and dislodgement. He told me not to play tennis anymore for fear of lead fracture and dislodgement. That brought me to te...

Hi All,
I am a 70 year old male. I had a pacemaker implanted on Aug 1, 2013. It was installed because of symptomatic bradycardia. During the installation the EP had difficulty inserting the leads and required the assistance of a vascular surgeon.
Prior to the PM implant, I ran 2.5 miles three days a week and I did strength (weight lifting) exercises on alternate days of my running, three days a week. I use a multi-station Precor, Zuma strength training machine at home.<...

Hi, I have a question for anyone who is a runner pre and post pm. My Medtronic rate responsive dual lead pm was fitted over a month ago for bradycardia and sinus pauses which became more marked after marathon training 2 yrs ago. Took 6 months off and improved. Went back to moderate running for 2 yrs then things got worse again so had pm. Feeling much better and happy with implant. Started gentle running at 3 weeks and now up to 5 k. I am much slower than after my last break. My questions are:

Hi PMC members,
I am now one week into life with a pacemaker. I knew I had a slow heartbeat just not aware how low is was getting until I was recently rejected for minor foot surgery. My heart rate was 33 at the time. Three weeks later I had the pacemaker procedure, which was painless. I was awake and given a local, spent one night in the hospital for observation and now delighted at the age of 66 to have the possibility of a healthier body. I'm now sleeping much better. Maybe my expe...

.... since I got my dual chamber Boitronik pacemaker. I had heart block. Was feeling fatigued ...ran/biked 3 to 4 times a week until my shortness of breath/dizzy spells caught up with me. My Dr. says its ok for me to walk, but wants me to hold off on the running for about another month due to all the bouncing so soon. So, I walked 3 miles 4 times last week. Feel great, but still a little concerned that I have a pacemaker. Can't wait until I start running...... but nervous about it. I guess...

Hi
Iâve worn pacemakers since the age of 2 and I had a box change last year. After getting the go ahead from my doctors I recently began jogging, which I really enjoy. I have started easy by doing the walk/jog method and so far it hasnât caused me any problems.
I am interested in taking protein whey (the milkshake kind) to help with me fitness and energy levels. Does anyone know if itâs safe for a pacemaker user to drink a product like this and if so what brands are...

I am a 72-year young 40-year road racing bicyclist. Currently, during the summer season, I ride, every second day weather permitting, a rigorous 30-mile loop which includes several 1-mile to 1.3-mile ascents (6 to 8% grades) and numerous lesser ascents. The 30-mile loop is accomplished within two-hours. During the winter season, I lap-swim and cross-country ski.

I will probably get a St. Jude two chamber in a couple of weeks because of a 2nd degree heart block that occasionally causes syncopy.
I was concerned about compatibility of my pacemaker and my normal routines of kayaking and weight training. You folks have been very informative and reassuring. Holding off for 2-3 months and then a gradual pickup is fine.

I am just grateful to God that I lived long enough to have my ICD put in. So many people are not as lucky as us; even though we sometimes don't feel lucky.
