Hi,I`m 52 year old male and active all my life and like riding my bike.I`ve been fitted with PM about 3 months ago and have the PM set at 50-175 BPM with rate response switched on.When exercising(bike/run) I cannot get HR passed 138 BPM on the road and indoors.Anyone out there with same problem? And how can I get a better response out of PM?
Thanks a lot

Background: I'm 27 yo and have SSS bradycardia and Tetralogy of Fallot. 6 weeks post-op since getting my pacemaker.
My EP suggested a change of brand from Medtronic to a dual sensing Boston Scientific. I didn't think this would make much difference but I exercised yesterday and I ran a 12 minute mile without gasping for air. I thought gasping while exercise was normal but apparently it's not. For the first time in 27 years I want to be active. This PM has made my life so much bette...

Pacemaker installed September 2013... Since then I have put on 20 LBS up from 176 now 196. The Army has me on a breath at own pace and distance and don't die profile. Civillian Doctor (who did the insertion) advises me to do anything I want as long as it is not contact sports... Anyone else getting FAT?

Just wondering if there are any other runners here that have discomfort from their pacemaker/defibrillator bouncing in their chest. Heavy duty sports bras have not been sufficient in keeping it still as they are not high enough nor tight enough in that area of the chest. Wondering if anyone has tried a chest strap and if they have been pleased with the outcome?

Hi all,
I've just joined this forum as I've recently been recommended a pacemaker to treat episodes of fainting during exercise.
I am a very active 30 year old female (I typically run 2 half marathons a year). I was 25 the first time I fainted during a netball game, immediately after stopping a short period of intense exercise. Since then, over the last 5 years I have had regular dizzy spells and 3 other complete black outs, all immediately after stopping intense exercise. I found tha...

I 'm getting ready for a second lead extraction in less than a year due to a ventricular lead fracture. I am concerned that some of my physical activities caused the fracture. I typically use a Nordic Track for 30 minutes and a rowing machine for 30 minutes 5 or six days per week. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? My Dr. can't give me a definite answer.

Hi guys,
I had a pacemaker fitted back in 2009 and now I'm studying at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. I'm in the 2nd year of my degree and I'm making a piece of choreography on the 'heart'. I was just wondering if any of you would be willing to talk to me about your own personal experience for my research?
Thank you!

I had a rate response Medtronic pacemaker implanted in January for bradycardia and is working well for most exercise I do-- but not for spinning classes. I now understand the limits of RR and wish I had known before implantation so that I could have asked for one that has minute ventilation too but I didn't know that at the time.
I can't get my HR up much above 100 in a spinning class. My question is, if I am riding a bike outside and riding hills and my HR doesn't go up but I'm ridin...

I had my PM implanted in Oct 2013 for SSS and AV disease. I feel better at rest but when I exercise I still struggle. I do have the odd good day but for the most part I feel short of breath and fatigue quickly. I have to say Im nowhere near where I was before my surgery. I struggle to keep my heart rate up. It seems that for the most part during a run it stays around 129 or 132 and Im short of breath, yet my pm is set to 170 for my max. I had my pm settings adjusted to the most sensitive to help...

Hi all. I had my pacemaker implant about 9 weeks ago. I had some friends strongly recommend the local Cardiac Rehab program. So I talked to my GP who signed me up. When the Cardiac Rehab people phoned me I was only about 5 weeks post op and they wanted me to come in at 7 weeks post op. I told them I didn't really know if I was technically a cardiac patient. I'm still awaiting test results and my final post op visit with the cardiologist. But the Cardiac Rehab people wanted me in anyways.<...

Hi my mane is Frank -I'm new and have a question on weight lifting restrictions. I received my pacemaker in 2010 after valve replacement surgery. I am 100% blocked. I really hadn't worked out since the mid 90's but since the surgery have tried to be more health. I am now down a little more than 20lbs. through walking, T25 and watching my diet. I am looking to start some weight training but was told by my Dr. to do no more than 30lb's per arm or 100lb's with both arms. My question is what have yo...

Hello all.
I have a CRT inserted (what they call biventricular PM).
1. Now i got this 2 in 1 pedometer with fat analyzer and on reading the ,manual it said not to use it with PMs. Can i use the pedometer without using the fat analyzer? Is it safe to use in my condition? (I hope).
2. I bought an Omron R2 wrist blood pressure monitor, now is it safe to use? Putting in mind that the monitor must be put at the level of the heart when measuring.
Sorry for the disturba...

Hi All, 39 year old very athletic female here. Found to have RV Dysplasia which was causing syncope and recently a heart rate of 250 which landed me in the ER. Having an ICD implant Friday. I have not run a lick in two weeks, how long did it take you to get back on your feet and running and exercising? Did you notice a difference? Are you able to run hard? Obviously I need to keep and take things down a notch, perhaps getting a heart rate monitor to keep things in check (anyone suggest one...

Hi All,
I have a new two lead pacer (3 weeks) treating a complete bundle branch block.
Long story short, I have a otherwise healthy heart and am in great shape.
Here is my question.
After a long, 3-5 miles, fast pace walk my hands become
swollen. Within 30min after stopping they return to normal.
Any Ideas?
Cheers,
Ed

Well, tomorrow is the big day-I go to the hospital to get my PM! This site has been so helpful. I have asked for implanted vs. just under the skin and have made it clear that cycling/spinning is my main cardio activity and that I need a PM that will allow me to get my heart rate up. All those pointers came from reading postings on this site.
I plan to be up and walking around my neighborhood straight away and heading back to spin class ASAP!

I had my PM installed in January. Had bradycardia, HR in low 30's and shortness of breath. Am 61 year old female, no other meds, incredibly active and fit. Had a medtronic RR pacemaker put in- have had a couple adjustments. Current HR range is 55-155 which works well if I'm on a treadmill, swimming, doing Pilates, etc. If I spin, it is horrible. I bang on it repeatedly to get it up and I can't get it above 105ish ( My daily living setting) If I get it up momentarily, in seconds it falls back dow...

When can you start doing aerobics or at least "dancing" to music. I did a little today but felt the pm shaking around in there a little uncomfortable but it felt so awesome to be able to do it because I haven't been able to do it in a long time. I wasn't out of breath and had the energy to do so. I just don't want to over do and shake something loose. Can I start bike and tread mill?? I had my implant on Monday 4/7.

Hello,
I am a 59 year old male with a 15+ year history of lone AFIB but no CAD. After 4 ablations, my AFIB was finally knocked out (if anyone wants info on who did my last procedure I would be happy to provide that) but developed sick sinus syndrome, hence a PM no defib was implanted on 10/31/12 at John Hopkins, so much for Trick or Treat. It is a two wire PM with wires in the right atrium and ventricle. I am currently on no meds. In Jan I started exercising for all the obvious re...
