Here we go!

Well, tomorrow is the big day-I go to the hospital to get my PM! This site has been so helpful. I have asked for implanted vs. just under the skin and have made it clear that cycling/spinning is my main cardio activity and that I need a PM that will allow me to get my heart rate up. All those pointers came from reading postings on this site.
I plan to be up and walking around my neighborhood straight away and heading back to spin class ASAP!

Discuss the model early on

by lbdina - 2014-04-15 01:04:12

If you've been reading here, you probably know that you want a PM with both acceleration and minute ventilation for rate response. If I recall correctly, that means you want a Sorin or Boston Scientific. I have a Sorin and I know for sure it has both.

Discuss the model they intend to implant as soon as you can, preferably well before the procedure so you really get what you need.

This may be rehashing old stuff you already know. Just wanted to be sure so you can stack the deck in your favor. Good luck!!

Good to hear

I hope it isn't too late to ask for one of those! I just told them what my workouts are and that I don't want my heart rate stuck. I am going to print this out and take it. They never talked to me about the model and when I asked they said he uses different devices according to patient needs and I told them my needs.
I hope I am not too late!!!!

Are ahead!! I just got mine last Monday and it's been profound!! I've never been that active before but now I just want to go and do!! It's really amazing how much better I feel. Don't push yourself the first week or so you don't want your leads to dislodge!! You'll do great

.........................all these guys have given you sound advice...you have to be a dummy or just unlucky for things to get complicated.....

I got back to running, and racing in just a few weeks after my PM...in my case ,no less rubbish than before....but , hey..

All my best wishes for the Big Day..it'll be just fine...

My advise is when you get home..milk it for all you are worth ..."Oooh will you get that for me"

"Oooh I just cannot reach that "

" Ooooh if you REALLY loved me you would get me a Daquiri "..........

"Ooooh if you knew how close to death I was, you would give me a foot massage"........

It will not last long..So...Get Value !!!

Seriously..it will be just fine..keep in touch and tell PMC how it went..

Great Advice!

by Kaitland - 2014-04-15 05:04:31

You guys are awesome! Tatoo Man, I really like your advice!
My cardiologist nurse did call me back this afternoon and told me that my doctor does have the notes on my requests on the PM and that he would talk to me tomorrow prior to procedure. I have printed out the sage advice and I was so proud of myself when I told her we need to be sure that my PM has acceleration and minute ventilation for rate response.
Not going to let them give me any drugs until I see him tomorrow and then I will tell them to load me up!
Thanks so very much, all of you who responded!

ICE

by kmom - 2014-04-15 07:04:44

I forgot to mention ice. Be sure to ask nurse when you get back to your room after the procedure for an ice bag. It really helps with pain and inflammation from the procedure. I still use ice periodically. Right now Iam at work and wishin I had some
