Hello, I am going to be getting a pacemaker in two weeks, and I have heard all different kinds of things about what the recovery is like. A few things that I have been wanting to know more about are:
how long you have to wear a sling for
how long you should not lift things for
how long you are not supposed to drive for
I was just wondering what everyone's experience with the recovery process was, and I am always interested in hearing your stories.
Thank you so much...

Got my 2nd PM that day. Boring while waiting in the room, no food since that morning early. Lady who did the IV is an angel. did not even feel it. Now they finally came to get me. The nurse did all the stuff to prepare me. I told her I WANT DRUGS for this. They laid me out and covered my face a bit, turned up the oxygen to double, and gave me a wee drug in the IV. She had to do another. :-) The Doc came in and started the alcohol scrub down [I was green down to my chest!]. He then began a serie...

Hi. I am 28 and had my pacemaker inserted 3 weeks ago. Ever since, I've had waves of extreme pain deep in the middle of my chest that sometimes reaches up to my jaw. I can't breathe in without it being excruciating so i have to take pain killers and lie down for hours (which is not really conducive with me returning to work). Pain was at its worst after PM check-up because the cardio messed around with my heart beat. Had a chest x-ray and blood tests and all looks normal. My cardiologist is very...

Hi! I had a pacemaker implanted just under three days ago. I'd been in the hospital 3 1/2 days, pulse running mostly 30 to 35. The surgeon implanted a pacer set at 50 minimum. While I certainly didn't expect to feel miraculously better the first couple days after surgery, especially having been pretty much confined to a hospital bed for 3 1/2 days immediately before receiving the device, I'm somewhat disappointed at just how weak and short of breath I am simply walking from room to room in the h...

HI, I'm new here and just wondered if anyone could help me make a decision. I have been waiting for a pacemaker to be fitted and have been told that it would be done on Jan 22 but I am booked to go to Goa for a month on the 4th Feb and we have already paid and am unsure what to do. I have asked around and some people say that I'd be fine going on holiday just after the fitting but I asked at the cardio clinic of the local hospital and she told me to get in touch with the Surgeon's Secetary to as...

I'm a 33 year old female. They discovered that I had Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy when I was 9 years old. Up until recently it was pretty manageable, I just took verapamil and didn't over exert myself too much. Recently I went in for a routine check up and they discovered that I had some kind of block. My heart rate was running low and my heart was having excessive pauses I guess, dropping beats. They took me off verapamil for a while and I was scheduled for a biventricular pacemaker on the 20th...

My 19yr. old cousin had open heart surgery when he was born back in 1995. He has been passing out lately and the doctors are telling him he needs a pacemaker. I am asking someone if they are in the same situation to please reply back to me and let me know if they feel a pacem, aker or heart surgery for the second time is needed? thank you, t.mundy

Hello, my name is Joseph and I just received a Medtronic Adapta PM. Surgery went well and I am in recovery room now. There is some pain that meds can help. I do not know what to expect in the coming weeks in reference to exercise but I am hopeful a will be close to normal.
I needed a PM due to a 2/1 HR during exercise. I waited before getting my PM. It progressed to 2/1 during resting state in a 6 month time period. Hoping to get back to normal life and exercise in the near future. Will k...

Am seeking a surgeon in GA or anywhere not too horribly far from GA that does submammary implantation.
If no one has suggestions for such surgeons anywhere near GA, please let me know what surgeon you did use, where he is, and if you were happy with the implantation.
Thank you.

Still have a slight pain at the site where it was put in. Only when I touch that area.... I know don't touch it!! Is this normal??

I got my 2 step, as I call in, PM around Oct. 23rd. 2013. It was due to Electrical issues and my heart beat was around 32 to 50 most of the time. I was exhausted, couldn't climb stairs or clean house. I just wanted to sleep. We did all the test, took the Rytonol, I think I've got it spelled wrong, but it took care of the high heart beat and my heart stoping for seconds, but it didn't correct the low heart rate after being on it for a month. Surgery went well, but was in a lot of pain afterwards....

I'm so new to this whole thing. I've had a pacemaker/defibulator put in about 5 days ago and can't sleep at all. All I know is it's currently set to 80bpm. This is all brand new for me and such a big change in life. Especially for my age(29). Thanks to whoever responds to this.
You know you're wired when...
You play MP3 files on your pacer.
