Hi All, First Check Up 7 Days out Sweating

Hi Everyone,

I want to thank all of you for your support! and messages, It truly has helped me allot.

I am trucking along :-) Got my first check up today.
Question for all of you that have had this issue.

I am pacing at 50%
They had my heart rate at 70 / 150
I have been short of breath and hyperrrrr since I workup . At first i was yippieeee... I had tons of energy. "However" i have been sweating like crazy as if i am on the treadmill and I Never" sweat and I am a bit breathless.

So today The gal called the Dr and they lowered it to 60/150

Question: is that a good number , trying to keep the Afib away.
2) will I feel lazy and sleepy , brain fog again with this small drop.
3) Do you adapt immediately? I am still a bit breathless?

All of you are a Godsend

Merry Merry and HoHo Ho

Cynthia

the perfect number

There is no perfect number for everyone ;o) The only way to find out what works best for you is exactly what they're doing, try it out and see how you feel. Typical lower limits are 50-70. If you are still breathless, I would give them a call since the holiday is this week and it might be hard to reach someone for a few days.

Good numbers

I agree with TraceyE - you're going to have to tell them what is a good number.

Re: Q 2 - Lazy, sleepy? A: Depending upon the amount of trauma you had before will depend upon how much you feel sleepy, tired, etc. I had a lot of trauma so I'd work for a little bit then I'd have to sleep for an hour. I won't call it lazy but I'd be so tired I couldn't do anything else. Brain fog goes away as you get better.

Re: Q 3 - adapt? A: You adapt a lot quicker than you'd think - mainly because you feel so much better.

As for your question about a-fib you're going to have to ask them how they are controlling your a-fib. For me they can't control rhythm so they control rate. They have me on Cardizem and Metoprolol to slow down my heart so I don't go into a-fib. The PM takes over my slow heart rate and keeps me going.

I'm between the proverbial rock and a hard place. If my heart goes to slow it will kill me. (Hence the PM.) If they let my heart go to normal speed I'm in danger of run away a-fib and that will kill me.

Because of the medication I have to drink more water. I also sweat more during rehab. But they're stressing me to the max to help in rehab. Goal is heart rate of 140 at 4% grade. I'm at heart rate of 120 and 3% grade. Under normal circumstances I wouldn't stress that much because I wouldn't have someone to watch my heart. So it's probably normal to sweat more.

However it does get better. As the PM helps out to train the heart to be consistent you start to feel better.

Hang in there. It gets better!

Sweaty workout

by JerryG - 2013-12-24 02:12:19

My dual chamber PM is set at 60 low and 150 high (after adjustment from initial settings) with rate response on. These settings work fine for me, spending 40+ minutes on my treadmill every day. I average 65% of my calculated MHR for that period and although I sweat heavily during the workout, I feel no other stress. It is hot here but I start my workout at 05h00 when the temperature is around 21 deg. C so it isn't too bad.

PM settings are very individual and what is good for one isn't necessarily good for another. I have SSS with severe bradycardia (prior to PM implant) and my resting HR used to go down to <30 hence the minimum being set at 60. I was also previously diagnosed with afib but that was successfully electro-cardioverted and I haven't had a recurrence (yet).

If you aren't feeling good with your present settings, ask for them to be changed asap.

Merry Christmas to all from sunny South Africa.

Settings.. and Merry Merry

by cindyredd - 2013-12-24 07:12:03

Hi all,

Thanks so much.. well I thing I made my first mistake. I feel the same at 60 only now I I feel a bit like before when I would get Brady the Boom boom boom feeling and the slight head rush,
As like you " JerryG" I have had the same. 3 ablations, 1 successful for afib cardioverted, 1 miss, 1 successful for svt.

My adjustment lady which I found interesting is that they can only adjust 10 points increments up or down. " Darn!" I think 65 would be perfect.

So she said she will not readjust it again till my next visit. Darn it..

She did say I could workout, on the elip and tread SLOW..
and the arm lol DO NOT MOVE THE ARM, I hedr about 50 times from her But I am listening to all of you and moving slowly, and carefully. As not to get frozen shoulder. I asked her about are therapy and she just totally blew me off and said no arm moving!

I am still a bit sweaty, I think its just the trama on the body, my new friend, getting a bit out of shape in 3 weeks..

Well my Friends. I will just drive her crazy and have her pop it back up.

Happy Christmas Eve to all of you , and a Wonderful Merry Christmas with all your Friends and Family.

Settings depend on you

by KAG - 2013-12-24 11:12:22

Like others have said above your PM settings are just that, yours. So your settings depend on how you feel. You aren't very far out from implant yet and your body may still be adjusting to your little friend. Plus as you said you haven't been doing much as far as exercise and it can take a while to get back to where you were.

I didn't do cardio rehab because of insurance issues but others have said that it's a good thing. You may check into that.
