I know what happened when I started having swollen ankles, the doctor put me on a pee pill (lasix) OK since then. I also weigh myself the first thing in the morning on a very accurate digital scale, to watch for any weight gain. My PM also records fluid retention so when it is read every 3 months I can see when I had fluid retention.

It could be CHF or sometimes edema just happens for harmless reasons. My mom has had problems with swollen ankles for years that she controls with water pills, no underlying cause has been determined.
