Arm Pain

Hi Frank,
I too had endured left arm pain with both of my surgeries but found that ICY HOT patches or the Walgreens equivalent worked wonders to quickly take the pain away. I applied them (with help) in the morning when I got out of the shower and kept them on until the next morning. Just a quick tip, they are quite sticky, just peel off the backing a little bit as you apply it to the affected area.

Good luck, I hope this helps you too!

not pain free....

I doubt anyone on here would say that their ICD/PM is pain free. I've had mine for a year now and it still hurts occassionally, but yes I would say that constant pain should not happen. The occassional stabbing pain/ache/or just general annoyance is pretty common, but not continual pain.

Franko,

In my opinion 19 months of arm pain after an ICD/pacemaker implant is about 18 months too long. In my case it was about 2 DAYS. I see others talking about one to three weeks,

I say see your doctor and insist that he/her find out what is going on. A pacemaker/ICD is supposed to be pain free after we get over the initial pain from the surgery. If you doubt that, check with another doctor or with the manufacturer and ask them how long should you expect to have pain from an implant.

Pain Free

The only time I've had any pain since maybe a month or so after it was implanted is when when I fell while hiking in the desert. I slipped on a rock and was carrying my large camera over my left shoulder and landed with it between my pacer site and the ground. The pacer, camera, and me all survived but the pacer site was sore for a week. Other wise I hardly realize it is there.

Sounds like it is time for you to get back with your doc and see what is going on.

By the way I assume that it is implanted just under your skin. Sometimes they are put under a muscle to make them less obvious and the muscle activity can keep irritating the site.
