Prices of Pacemakers ??

I was asked by one of my USA online friends what a pacemaker costs where I live ( NL ) and frankly I do not know since the insurance pays for it. So does anyone know what these cost ? Just the pm itself she wanted to know. And what about other countries what is the price there ? Anyone knows this ?

I actually just got my insurance claim from surgery the other day. My pacemaker itself cost $9,885.00. That's coming from the US.

Like yourselves in Holland, we in the UK never get involved in the costs of treatment as it is paid for by the state ( via our National Insurance taxes ) but I did ask " What does the PM alone actually cost here? "and I was told that it is around £2,000 ( about $ 3,000 )

Once you are into private healthcare they can have any mark-up they choose . I believe in the US they have a system where they think of a number, double it, multiply it by your birthday, add the number of your car , then triple it
..... and that is at the cheaper hospitals !

I think every country will give you a different answer but the actual cost of a PM from the manufacturer isn't that high !

Can you handle this ?...........

.......................a few weeks ago I had a new box fitted.

I asked my Surgeon if I could have the old one as a souvenir...

" Sorry Mr TM,..we used to give them back,..but idiots were putting them on the fire and blowing up their houses.."

"So ..dear Doctor..what happens to the old ones ?"

" We sell them to Vets"

"Huh..?"

" If the old ones have a decent battery life..they just might keep an old fat Labrador going for a bit longer"

" Can I buy it back

" no"

" Ill make a contribution to the Nurses Thingy Fund..."

"no"

"What do they cost then,..as in ,..new ?"

" A Sorin ,..basic model ( no air-con..central locking..)..like yours.. about £500..."

You dont have to be a clever Texan like Lance Armstrong who famously said..."You do the math"

So..£500..or 50.000 bucks...maybe the cynical view is..who cares ,..unless its not YOU thats paying...AND LIVING

IAN MC is always a clear thinker.

Maybe , around the globe, ..we need a few more politicians who can be that good.

End of rant..I am expecting a potential tsunami of opinion on this subject

On the good side,..when I had a 'Pre-Dog -Owned' PM..I always had a very glossy coat.........!!

Tattoo Man..Woof !

PM installed December 2011 and the total bill (in USA) was $20,000. The PM was $10,000, doctor was $5,000 and hospital was $5,000.
