A couple of rough days

Just wanted to get some moral support I suppose. I've had my PM for 3 months now and for the most part I'm feeling really good, but the last few days I just can't help but feel like something is not right. I get the odd sensation that I may pass out like I used too. It is not nearly as bad but still feeling something unusual. I already get lots of PVC"s but they seem to be worse the last few days. I also feel off balance. Im so worried that perhaps the lead has moved or something. I had to have a lead replaced after only having my pm for 3 weeks so I'm freaking out that I may have to go down that road again. Any thoughts, I just appreciate any input anyone may have. Thanks.
Jean

Off balance

Your feeling of being off balance may be a clue to the problem. This sounds more like vertigo where the inner ear is the problem. This produces the dizzy type effect, but is easy to interpret as being near passing out.

To sum it up veritigo is an inner ear related loss of balance, and passing out is feeling light headed and is due to a reduction of blood flow in the brain.

Try not to panic

by LouLou21 - 2008-09-28 06:09:52

Hello, i know its very much easier said than done but try not to panic yourself into thinking something is going to happen. Like yourself i felt like i was still going to faint or blackout from time to time and that was probably up until about 2 months ago (i'm coming up to my 6 month anniversary of pm being fitted) It really does take time to adjust yourself to these feelings.

If your really still worried I'm not sure how it works in canada but here in england if i feel there is something not quite right i can book an appointment with the pacemaker clinic where they put me on the machine and see if any leads have moved or anything else is wrong. It helps also if you write down the time and date of event or feelings they can see exactly what has happened if anything.
It will get easier and you will notice it much less in time.
Hope i have been of some help, Talke care and let us know how you go.
Louise.

that odd sensation

by busby - 2008-09-28 11:09:40

Hi Jean,
I still get odd sensations like I could have passed out, but the pacemaker prevents me from fainting. The cardiologist has tried adding the rate drop response and it has helped a little. It only happens for an instant but during this time I have weird thoughts. A little like what Peter Nash described. It happens so quickly that I usually think after it an say to myself "was that another one of those events" It is a bit like that prefaint feeling. I can still drive, walk or whatever while it is happening. Maybe your heart rate drops a little too fast like mine and you may just need some more adjustments.
Hope this helps.

Takes Time

by harrisonb - 2008-09-28 12:09:06

It will just take some more time to get used to. After every surgery you are going to feel different or weird, that is going to happen no matter what. It is pretty normal to feel this way. Eventually your body should readjust and everything should go well again!

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
