pacemaker fitted yesterday

I had a bi lead pacemaker fitted yesterday and 24 hours on I am feeling absolutely fine. The operation (carried out by the NHS in the UK) was very straightforward. I had minimal sedation and was awake throughout with no pain at all. Post operatively I have had, as yet, no pain relief whatsoever. I'm no martyr and I'm far from brave - I just haven't needed it thus far. My shoulder is a bit stiff and there is maybe a very slight ache but nothing that requires pain relief.
Prior to the procedure I was nervous and I did read a lot of messages on this site- all of which interested me, most of which encouraged me greatly, and there were, I admit, a couple which worried me too.
My reason for posting is simply to tell anyone awaiting their implant procedure with trepidation not to worry. Good luck to everyone and I hope to post quite regularly on here and share my experienced of being 'wired' .

Hi, Tom.

I just wanted to say that I'm glad to hear you've escaped your pm implantation with minimal pain or problems. I didn't need any pain meds after my surgery either. I did, however, ice the site from time to time when it felt sore. That helped tons!

Happy pacing,

Sorry..

I just got my pm last Friday....I however had ALOT of pain. I hope I did not scare you....but I had mine buried deep under my breast...and he in turn had to bury the lead very deep. My doc said it took almost an hour longer than most..especially since it is only a single lead!
But it is one week today...and I feel so much better. I still have quite a bit of arm pain...but it is still quite swollen.
NOTHING I can't handle though. I can't wait to use my arm and lift it above my head and move forward!
I am glad yours went so well.
