I love rollercoasters. I find that if there is an electromagnet on a ride you will find that there will be signs up at the entrance stating that it uses strong electromagnets and that people with pacemakers should not ride.

As for the tattoo. You should really use antibiotics if you're set on getting one. Talk to your cardio and tell them that you really want a tattoo but would rather do it with antibiotic cover. Ask them for a prescription for high dose penicilin which is the same as used when I visit the dentist. I have 3mg Amoxycilin.

Enjoy the rides and hope the tattoo does not hurt too much LOL

Talk to your DR.
This much I know from my daughter-in-law who is a tattoo artist. While having my ICD placed, I told the doctor to make a neat incision or I'd have to get a tattoo to cover the scar. When I mentioned it to DIL, she said she gave someone a tattoo over his PM scar that read "Open here". She also said that people have told her that having a tattoo made it easier for the surgeon to align the skin after a replacement. (?)
Me? I don't have a tattoo and don't expect I'll ever get one. Just sharing what DIL said over breakfast one morning.

Re: the tattoo artist- It may be the scare of knowing you have a heart problem and not knowing about meds - blood thinners, etc. This will hinder clotting, and healing time. Also I think they recommend you wait about 6 mos after surgery before you get a tattoo. Infection issues and all.
I have a pacer and a tattoo. Hope to get another, although I don't think it'll be over any of my many scars.
I would suggest read the tattoo release if nothing applies that you "need" to tell them, don't say a thing unless the tattoo is in the area of the scar.
GOOD LUCK, and take a few pain pills before the tattoo.

I have a Tattoo as well

I have a tattoo as well. I have had a pacemaker for 22 years now. I had my pm for 13 years when I got my tattoo. I called my pacemaker clinic before getting the tattoo and they said it was totally fine.

Good luck -

i got a tattoo to comemorate my PM!

by dw5281 - 2008-04-24 03:04:58

Hi i got a PM in feb & I got a tattoo about 4weeks later (didnt realise about the 6months oops oh well!) to comemorate it. Its on my foot & I had no issues at all - in fact i never brought it up & they didnt ask! It made absolutley no difference having a pacemaker from any of my others. Reading about tattoos over the site makes me cringe because mines painful ouch!! i had no need for painkillers before or after (but could be because it was so far away from the site!) but this tattoo is now my fav as its special!
