Med Alert bracelets

Hi again. I have noticed some banners advertising medic alert bracelets/pendants. I have never been told I needed to wear one.
How do you know you should wear one? Is it a personal choice or medical advisement?

thanks

I hate to hear that they are a good idea as I can't stand wearing watches or any kind of jewelry. I'm always catching them on things and tearing my wrist. I feel like a model kit with too many pieces glued on. :P

I wear mine

I have been an RN for too many years to count (hah) & I wear my Medic Alert all the time. Also get a sticker for the car window. All this makes me feel much safer as I live & usually drive around alone. Just my opinion but I think as noted above that if there were an accident or situation can not respond then the bracelet has the # to get all your current info (Doc, meds, etc) to your providers, Also Medica Alert has a nice catalogue with lot of different styles to use.

Hope none of us ever have to use Medica Alert but good safety margin to have.

I was told by my EP that wearing some type of medical alert jewely was in my best intrest. Because of my age, she said that no one would ever suspect that I have a pacemaker. I have several different pieces that I alternate between, and make sure that it is always part of my wardrobe!

I am part of the First Aid team where I work.
If ever you are in a spot where you can't communicate with a medical team, it is nice to have a Medic Alert bracelet or necklace.

I have had two cases where the patient was unconcious (scene of a car accident) and was able to respond to their pre-existing medical condition because of their Medic-Alert bracelet (normally, an EMT will not go through your wallet or purse - especially in an emergency situation.)

I wear mine faithfully!

hi meg, i was told by my cardiologist that it was a good idea to wear a med alert bracelet but not nessecery (i can never spell that word) as long as i carried my pacemaker card everywhere with me. however i decided it was better for me to wear a med alert bracelet because it made me feel more safe nd secure and confident in going out by myself. plus u can get some real pretty looking ones.

I don't wear one but as many will tell you, you probably should. While working as an EMT it was one of the first things I would look for they make some that don't look bad either. I think manyof the others will be able to give you those sites and if you look back aways about two months ago I would say it was a big topic that everybody was talking about.
