10 Years!

Today was my 10th pacemaker anniversary! And they said it wouldn't last...

The 2 permanent pacers before this one only lasted 4 years each, and this one was only supposed to last 8 years. Well, it's been an entire decade and we're still expecting another 4.5 years!! I'm really not sure how I'll be able to handle the next surgery - I won't be "used to it" anymore!! LOL!

Also, HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to all the mother's out there, especially to my mother: she carried me for 8 1/2 months, against all the odds and through the suggestion the doctors made to terminate the pregnancy; she stayed by my side through all the hospitalizations; she never gave up hope, and instilled in me a sense of strength and confidence; she taught me to never give up. 10 years ago, her Mother's Day was hampered by the realization that her 8 year old daughter would be having her 4th heart surgery. Yet she slept by my side that Monday night and comforted me. That is dedication. That is a heart mom.

I had one that lasted two months under 21 years, & they told me it would last only 8 years.

It will be interesting to see how long your one lasts

Hi Sydney, What a great message of appreciation for "Mom" !! I'm also happy with your record of usefull pacemaker life over the years. You know you're right about fear having the surgery for another PM change. I've had so many that it's not a fear factor anymore.
Ya, my last was this past November & now it's terminals are looking into my armpit. I have an appointment with a top EP at Harper hospital in Detroit this Friday. Hopefully he can come up with a better revision. As now my right chest is a complete mess with scar tissue my present surgeons are not too pleased. I'm taking along X-Rays taken the other day which should help with showing both right & left pairs of leads. As this problem has been kicked around on our site, any advice would really be appreciated. Thank You !!
