Not Silly

Heya, Rach.

You should be fine with a tanning bed. It might not hurt to double check with your doc or his nurse, though. Or you could call and check with your pm's manufacturer. The only things I would worry about with tanning beds are skin cancer and aging of the skin. You may also think about your incision scar--it may turn permanently darker if exposed to sun/tanning lamps.

Hope this helps.

I tan all the time!

I have had a PM for almost three years and have used several different types of tanning beds. I was even told I could wear my halter monitor into the tanning bed, but decided not to since we can wear those halter monitors into the shower! I would agree with ela that the UV doesn't do much to help with scarring so you may want to cover your incision area. I typically do b/c my keloids are so bad already.

I meant to say CAN'T wear the halter monitor in the shower...

No PM Question is Silly

I tan off and on and have used all the different beds. I too was a little concerned but I have had no problems. Just know that there are no silly questions when it comes to PM's. You can never be to cautious.

So glad you asked

I am so glad you asked I was wondering the same thing. I got my pm 2 months ago and had no idea if you could go in the tanning beds either. I dont think the question was silly now I know I can go tan! thanks for asking!

Tanning

I use that big tanning bed in the sky. I'm nearly 78, lived in the desert most of my life, spent time boating and water skiing, and only used minimal sun screen to keep from burning when I was exposed for long periods. I haven't had any problems with skin cancer and my skin doesn't show aging any more than I would expect for my age. By the way my pacer scar is hardly noticable 9the bulge is!).
It is interesting that we evolved as a species over thousands of years in the sun and only during the last 50 or so we need screens.
