After surgery pain.......

by pacergirl - 2007-12-11 07:12:58

Yes I have had this problem. I have had more surgeries than most people have had so I have learned a few things about myself. It seems that air enters the body through the incision site and then has nowhere to go. So it rises and escapes through your shoulder area. This causes some pain. As far as your neck pain goes you never know how your head was angled when you are "under". Sometimes they pull your head back quite far to get the different tubes down your throat. Seems a bit rough I know. This is what my nurse explained to me after one of my surgeries. You may wish to discuss it with you surgeon.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

Neck pressure

by Shelly - 2007-12-12 06:12:17

Hi Faithman007,

I had my PM just over 2 weeks ago and felt some neck pressure for about 8 or 9 days afterwards. I'm not 100% sure what the cause was, but before my PM, one of my symptoms was left-sided neck/jaw pressure pain, (it felt tight as if it was swelling up, but it wasn't) so initially I thought it may be a symptom that the PM hadn't 'cured'.

During the past week the neck pressure seems to have gone, so I think it was possibly as pacergirl mentioned above, the head's position during surgery.

I was awake during the procedure and they placed my head facing to the right, turned away from the implant site. I was lying like that for nearly 2 hours, so it seems logical to me now that the vein tugging etc the doc was doing, coupled with my head's position, I was bound to feel some post surgery neck trouble.

At least I hope that's what the neck pain was coz it's gone now and I'd like it to stay gone!!

Rest up and take it easy if you can. Hope you feel better soon.

Shelly (UK)

Thanks

Neck Pain

by Meadowlark - 2007-12-13 04:12:47

Just returned from PM check. Asked about neck discomfort, technician claimed there are problems with single lead PM's but not dual lead. Hmmm....I have a dual lead PM. He said he had never heard of this with dual leads, so I still do not have an answer. No one seems real interested in the problem since my PM checks out just fine.

Lower Neck Pressure Bothering Me Again

by Meadowlark - 2007-12-13 11:12:48

My PM was implanted 4 weeks ago. By the second day I had this weird feeling in my lower neck, deep inside and toward the back. I even went to the emergency hospital to get it checked out by cardiologist and St. Jude technician. Nothing detected, so I took Tylenol for a few days thinking it was muscle pain related to being on the operating table for so long (3 hours!) during my implant procedure. It went away after a bit but returned 2 days ago. I saw my cardiologist yesterday, EKG looks fine, just neck tightness and weird feeling in lower neck. So, today I have an appointment for a PM check with St. Jude technician. I really would like to find out what this is all about since I never had any of these symptoms before PM implant. I hate to think it is something I'll "just have to live with" forever....it is very uncomfortable.

I post a follow-up when/if the problem is diagnosed.

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
