Hello my good friends.
I have not been on here for some time, but you are all always in my thoughts.
My son has a Ddd ppm pacemaker and I am somewhat confused as to what these letters mean.
Any info would be extremely grateful.
Regards

I just read the abbreviations

They are a bit confusing.
DDD translated:
D(1) Dual chambers paced (Atria & ventricles) - self explanatory.
D(2) Dual chambers sensed - the PM senses what both chambers are doing & the data from the sensing is used for the PM to decide what it CAN do.
D(3) Dual chambers inhibited. This means the PM has the capability of NOT acting on what is sensed by the D(2). This is a critical function of the PM. If there is a voltage in the heart sensed by one of the two chambers' sensing, the PM could cause severe trouble if it sent a signal while that voltage is there. F'rinstance - there is a little squiggle in ECG traces that follows the BIG squiggle showing that the ventricles are acting. That little squiggle is called a "T Wave." If the PM sensed a T wave & sent a signal at that time, it could cause V-Fib, which can be fatal.
Usually, there is another letter following the First Three - it is either an R or an O. That letter tells you if the Rate Response is activated. R means it is; O means it is not.

A pacemaker completely solved my problem. In fact, it was implanted just 7 weeks ago and I ran a race today, placed first in my age group.
