dematologist appointment

I'm finally going to see a dermatologist next week for my hypertrophic (similar to keloid) scar pain. After my pacemaker surgery last October things seemed at first to progress normally but at around six weeks post-op my pain started to increase. At the end of January my IM prescribed Neurontin for nerve pain, which helped tremendously. At this point my pain is limited to the scar itself. So, CathrynB and others, is there anything I need to know to specifially ask or bring up at this appointment? Thanks for all your help and for this website. It really has been an anchor for me throughout all this.

Hello VonnieVern,

Very interesting problem you face. I do not have any information for you to help answer your question, my apologies. However, I know that my scar (I am at 45 days since implant) has "healed" fairly well, but sometimes it seems to ache. I don't know if the skin is stretching because of movement, or what. But I have used an over-the-counter sunburn remedy that has helped. It is a aloe vera cool blue gel put out by the company, Fruit of the Earth and it contains lidocaine. It does give me fairly reasonable temporary relief for several hours.

I am posting this information just because I think it sort of goes along with the pain you mentioned in your scar.... but at a much lesser level.

I would ask the doctor, if it were me, why you have experienced this kind of pain and if there is anything you can do to help avoid it in the future when you may have other surgeries and/or PM replacement.

Good luck and let us know!
