friend with rbbb

I just found out that a friend of mine who is 18 has a right bundle branch block (rbbb). He is going in for a cath to check for any blockage and to see if he needs a pacemaker. Does anyone have this? and what are his chances of needing a pacemaker?

RBBB

Hi!
If I am right about this, a RBBB can be from birth or acquired. I was diagnosed with a RBBB on a routine EKG in my 40's, generally much better to have a RBBB than a LBBB (left) for conduction reasons. Many people can have a RBBB and NEVER need a Pacemaker. So, the chances are very good that this condition would not necessitate a Pacer.....of course that's assuming he has no other cardiac problems. Wishing him luck!

Hi carol,

I had palps then had an EKG that showed RBBB....i panicked and went to the web and saw that about 30% of athletes show RBBB ...30%..(Athletes heart)
I convinced myself that was what I had....but the followup holter monitor showed I was having episodes of complete block for 5-8 seconds.
I would be asking your friend if he has dizzy spells...that what I had and it was from complete block ,hence I have a pacemaker at 39,,,,
So Rbbb on its own is not really a problem..
good luck
Pete

I believe I was born with both the RBBB and LBBB. One day both decided to challenge one another and got my PM. :) Anyway, my RBBB always shows up on ECGs and doctors never seem worried about it.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
