Hi Maureen.

All the information regarding your pacemaker: model, serial number, lead type and serial number, are on your pacemaker identification card. Or at least, should be.

Duane.

If you look on the left side of the site, you'll see a window with a link regarding the recalled leads. It may help you decide what you need to do.
I wouldn't feel comfortable with my pacer turned off, if I were in your situation.
It doesn't take much for something to happen, and I'd want to be on the safe side.
We can't make that decision for you, we can however give you all our support in any decision you choose.
Take care,

Recall

by janetinak - 2007-10-21 12:10:04

I am so sorry about the recall. It shouldn't be happening but as it did I think if it were me I would get it fixed so if needed its there.

Our thoughts & prayers are with everybody affected by the recall.

keep the ICD

In my case, I have V-tach, and could/would die without the ICD unit. Being without it is not an option. I also have the 6949 lead, but it is only 3 months old.

I'm going to see doctor this week to have unit reprogrammed as recommended by Medtronic. I might ask for another wire. According to Medtronic, after 3 months, too much scar tissue is attached to old lead to remove it safely, so they just *cap* the old lead, and put in a new one next to it (e.g. Quatro wire, which is predecessor of Sprint Fidelis), space permitting.

My idea is, cap the old wire, leave it where it is, and put in the Quatro wire, adjust the ICD parameters according to the Medtronic Technical Bulletin under "information for doctors." and be done with it.

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
