question for the Ladies

My aunt has recently got a pacemaker. I have some questions. Is the pacemaker always on the left side and placed in the same place on everyone? Also is there anywhere to get a special bra as the regular one hurts her? Sorry fellas, just needed some info. Also are there websites I can go to that have pictures and info on the type pacemaker she has? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Ginger

Hi and welcome to the club you came to the right place. I wish you aunt luck in her recovery. Pacemakers(pm) are not always placed on the left side. Some can be placed on the right, and some in the abdomen. I would say all of us women would wish they had a bra that would be more comfortable for us. Right now I have not seen one out. Though they do have on the side under store you can go to the seatbelt thing and they just came out with something that you can place on your bra to help with it. I haven't tried it so I can not tell you if it works maybe somebody else will be able to. To find a picture of what type of pacemaker she has figure out what kind she has and go to the companies website. Do a search and normally they will show a picture and a tell you a little info about the pm.
Take care and if you have anymore questions feel free to ask.

Oh the bra problem!

Yup. Tammy said it all! Another thing that your aunt can do as far as the bra is concerned is try a strapless bra or cut up a hanky, fold one of the pieces, and place it under the bra strap to act as a buffer between the incision site and the strap. I didn't wear a bra for about a week after my surgey! When I did start wearing a bra, the folded hanky was enough to help--it was soft enough, too. I did have to loosen my strap on the implant side a little, too. We're all supposed to have uneven boobs anyways, right?!

If you need some more specific information on web sites for pacemaker info., just ask!

I wish your aunt the best!

I have the same issue with a bra. I like those built in bras inside tank tops. They work great but don't give much support. I am still searching for the right one though.

Bra saga

I still haven't been able to wear a bra with straps. I am now always wearing strapless bras. I am 31 years old and like most women I want to feel pretty and dealing with the scar and the UGLY strapless bras..it is getting me very annoyed.
If I was at all artistic I would love to create a strapless bra line and comfortable bra line for women in our situation. I am so motivated to do this, but I don't know how to get started.
Anyway, I would suggest a strapless bra or like Karen mentioned the built in tank bras.
All women feel differently about this, I know that my site is still very sensative and I prefer no straps.

Good Luck,
Christine

Sleep Bra

I had my pacer put in 10 days ago, I didn't wear a bra for the first week. I just so happened to have one of those "sleep bras" you know the stretchy kind? It offers support and I too use a folded cloth/hanky right under the strap...it works great! Who knows, maybe I'll NEVER go back to my old underwires! God luck to your aunt. Carol

You know you're wired when...

Your ICD has a better memory than you.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
