PM Scar

Hi all,

I have PM scars on both side of chest. When i go along with friends for places like beach or waterpark i feel awkward as this brings attention to me, because of my young age i prefer not to discuss my medical history with most of the people.

Is there anyway apart from Plastic surgery to hide scar ot to minimizes its appearnce.

Will be very glad to get the solution.

the older i get the less i care what others think. completely immaterial. i have many battle scars and i won't go into why as most people would be completely bored. i know i am. just got back from the olympic sized pool. it was great.i swam for two hours. good exercise. i also met a few people. this [place is like heaven on earth. i can't believe how much we both love it here. it surely is what is inside that counts jessie

In Australia, because of the sun, we wear overshirts when we swim. There are some pretty tops to coordinate with swimwear. If people look at you give them a big smile (it makes them wonder what you have been up to!!) Anyway it is none of anyone's business to ask and we don't have to explain. Just say it is personal and I don't talk about it.

As you get older it will not bother you so much. I have some awful scars (not related to my pm) and I was told by the plastic surgeon that time will heal. I found it hard to accept when I was young but it was true. It is inside what counts not the book cover. I actually think I earnt my scar which shows when I wear some t shirts. Who cares? I don't.

Your scar is Beautiful

Well I personally think that you should see your Pacemaker scar as beautiful. I am only 21 years old and have many scars from different surgeries. I have come to accept that my scars give me character. I live in Daytona Beach,Florida and we recently had our annual Bike Week event which I worked. Of course to attract guys to our shop we wore low cut tops and you could see my scar. I had some people comment on my scar and I just told them proudly that I have a pacemaker and it is making sure I am here everyday. If you don't feel comfortable with answering peoples questions then you should politely tell them that you would not like to discuss your health with them. But I do understand where you are coming from with people staring. But remember just that no matter how many people point and stare at your scars your Beautiful :) And by the way. I also wear my bikini which shows my scar but I do wanna give you this last bit of advice. Make sure you get a stick of chapstick with spf and rub it on your scar when you go out into the sun. Sun will make your scar appear darker. You might also want to try some scar cream. Good Luck :)

^5 to all the wonderfully positive attitudes!!! I rub that sparking gel all over my arms, shoulders, chest and neck... figure if they are looking, I'll give 'em something to really be looking at!!!! We rock!!!!

Scarring

Hello Pacemaker - I'm a 67 year old and wasn't exactly thrilled to be scarred by the PM insertion. In fact, I'd to be opened up twice as the ventricular lead became dislodged almost overnight, from the first operation. However, I've been anointing myself with something called Bio Oil - super stuff - it's worked wonders. The scar's flattened out and looks like a long scratch. If I want to wear a garment which shows the scar then I simply cover it with cosmetic concealer. Works a treat. The cream concealer can be "set" with a smigeon of face powder and it's fine for the day. I'ts the same as every other blemish we suffer. All we can see if we've a cold sore is it's ugliness. In fact other people hardly notice it and, personally, I feel a cold sore is a great deal uglier than the scar from my PM op, which can be so easily disguised. Unless you make a fuss about it then others won't give it a second thought....and, give it time...all scars diminish as Nature's allowed to do her work. Let her get on with it and in the meantime - a spot of cosmetic magic won't hurt. Have fun and enjoy the day. All love, Wannabe

I used too work in the skin care industry and there is a cover up that is pretty water proof called dermablend.

I'm not young; am 66 years old and have had my PM for 2 1/2 yrs now. My scar is barely visible. If you didn't know I had a PM you would not even notice the scar.
My hubby and I were just talking about how faint the scar is the other day.
How old are your scars?

Now I have everything against me. I am male I am old. And I really don't care what everyone else thinks. I consider my scar a battle scar and I wish I could show it off more often. Of course because I am Male I am old and I don't care it barely shows. Damn I hate it when that happens. It has been 2 and 1/2 years and the scare is fading very nicely. So do what all the nice people above have told you and it will most likely clear up. I hope this will be the worst of your problems. If so you will have a great life. Please don't take this the wrong way I am just trying to point out that after you have lived for 65+ years you will realize a scar here and there is no big deal. Bowlrbob
