weird question

Hi everyone, I have my first nasty cold with my pm. If I cough really hard can it mess with my leads? I woke myself up coughing last night and it really hurt my pm, I don't think anything is messed up, I was just curious.

Hi, nat!

How does it hurt? And how long ago did you have your pm put it?

From my personal experience...about a month after my pm surgery I got a sinus infection. I started having seriously sharp pains when breathing that got worse when I was upright or laying down but a bit better when I would bend over. I thought it was my pm because it hurt my chest. I went to my EP (who was out of town for a family emergency) and had to see someone else in the practice. She said nothing was wrong and that I just wasn't used to the pm and was getting too nervous about all the new feelings. What an idiot. So, I saw my EP when he got back. Turns out I had pericarditis. They are not sure how I got it but said the sinus infection exacerbated it. The gunk got into my lungs and made its way over to my heart (the lining of the lung and heart are connected). It took months to get the pericarditis under control.

I guess my point of this whole long message is to not take colds lightly. Take care of yourself! If you feel like something isn't right, see a doctor. I can't imagine hard coughing would mess up your leads, but I'm no doctor. When I get really sick, I can have a hard cough that I would think would make a lung come out. You can always call and talk to your doctor's nurse and ask questions for peace of mind.

Feel better!

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
