Guns n' Roses

Reading an aricle today about the new autobiography by former Guns n' Roses guitarist Slash (called "Slash") in which it mentions that he's been fitted with an ICD. Aparrently his heart stopped for eight minutes which I think was down to substance abuse. I haven't read the book but presumably the episode is covered in some detail. I've never seen his name crop up when well known people with ICD's are mentioned. As a musician myself I would be interested if it's had any impact on his live performances/musical output and his relationship with large sound systems/amplifiers. Suggest he joins the group! Steve

I haven't heard at all about this. I wonder when he got it. I used to love Guns n' Roses in the late 80's/early 90's. i just may have to investigate this further.

Are you aware, Steve, that Elton John has a device also?

Large Sound Systems

by dward - 2007-11-28 12:11:29

I wouldn't worry about the large sound systems SSteve.
I just got my PM in May, but have played on some stadium-sized sound systems and didn't have a problem.
I also have a 4000 watt three-way PA we use in practice and it hasn't given me any problems, nor has my bass amp (1 x15 cabinet and 1 - 4x10 cabinet + 700 watt head).

What a few of my PM Docs have told me is that the magnets in even the biggest speakers, are not powerful enough on their own to cause an issue. I think they're right. (Believe me, I asked, and asked, and re-asked prior to my operation!!!)

I have stood right beside my bass cabinets and no problem whatsoever.

Now, some people say it bothers them when they are around loud music, but that may be from the vibration, not the actual speaker magnets.

D. Ward

Lowther Horns

by Stumpy - 2009-01-20 03:01:06

Hi,

I have been a hifi fanatic for many years, I built most of my amplification from tubes, and I also have a pair of horns being driven by Lowther PM2A drivers. The magnets on these things must weigh 20-30 lbs.

I had an ICD fitted in Dec., is it time for me to consider getting rid of this stuff? What type of data do I need from the manufacturer to confirm the safety margin? Magnetism is measured in Teslas, is there anything else I need to know other than the Tesla rating?

Thanks,

Stumpy./

Thank you!!!!!

I've been freaking out thinking I can never play amp-ed again! I still have to wait 10 days before I can lift my fiddle....and I'm a bit concerned about the shoulder rest. Worse comes to worse, I'll pad up like an MLB catcher. Any violinists or fiddlers with pacemakers care to advise?
BTW, I also work in radio. No problems at all in the studio, but my boss says to saty out of the engineering suite.

Slash/ Saul hudson

Steve,

I can confirm that Slash (saul hudson) was a patient in cardiac rehab some years ago in a west la hospital. I worked in the field at the time and a friend of mine ran the program that he was participating in.

Earphones

by RumbleOfDrums - 2014-10-07 09:10:19

I got told would be okay with speakers as longs as I don't stand right against them.
What I'm more concerned about at the moment is EARPHONES.
I just found numerous warnings about earphones and ICDs.
Most talk about mp3 player/earphones but one article just said earphones.
It's all very confusing.
Apparently, its dangerous to have earphones (not clear whether only mp3 player earphones only) hanging around neck.

You know you're wired when...

Muggers want your ICD, not your wallet.

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
