Do Personal Radios Cause Heart Defect?

I would like to hear from anybody who can assist or advise me in some research I am contemplating to undertake concerning personal radios used by law enforcement and other like agencies, and their possible effect on the heart, by prolonged use.

I used radios in connection with my work as a police officer for over 30 years. In particular for a period of over 5 years in the early 1980’s I used a covert radio which consisted of a radio worn in a harness similar to a firearm brace, worn under your clothing. The signal from the radio was transmitted wireless from the harness, by what I believe to be a transponder to a small concealed ear piece inserted in the left ear. The radio and transponder were situated on the left side over the heart.

I know of at least two other officers who served with me at the same time, who also used covert radios, and like me have needed pacemakers. Is it coincidence or is the incidence of this condition caused by radio transmissions being so close to the heart, and/or the prolonged use of personal radios over time.

I am interested to know if anybody has any theory, or explanation on this.

Please feel free to communicate with me through my message system or posting on this site. I would be happy also to give you my personal e.mail.

You know you're wired when...

You play MP3 files on your pacer.

A properly implanted and adjusted pacemaker will not even be noticeable after you get over the surgery.
