High heart rate whilst asleep

Hi

I am 7 years with a Medtronic dual lead pacemaker and two stents inserted two years ago for 99% blocked right coronary artery

Pacemaker was for ventricular standstill of 25 seconds whilst asleep.
I wear an Apple Watch as like to monitor my heart rate at night. This morning my report tells me that I had a heart rate of 109 bpm  sustained at that rate for 30 minutes whilst asleep . I've had the odd high beats during the night but only lasting a few beats but never this long.
I can get a check done but just asking any advice if this is reliable or maybe wait to see if it happens again?

REM sleep?

I would put that down as a dream with a lot of sympathetic activity, but perhaps less likely if it was during the early part of the night's sleep.

109BPM doesn't seem very high, but perhaps that's closer to your maxHR than it is to mine.

I was wondering about dreams. Some can be pretty "active".

Last year, I woke up one morning with a very high heartrate close to 200 BPM.

Way over my normal IPG base rate of 70-BPM.

It didn't show any sign of stopping and I was admitted to resus.

Troponin level was raised and I was treated with Bisoprolol until both rate and Troponin had dropped. I didn't see anyone from cardiology, but there might have been a phone conversation,

There are many settings on Medtronic devices including Real Time Clock and sleep time settings to allow different rate settings to be adjusted, if they are set in the first place.

The default settings are often set to OFF

I've never been told settings or asked if if any might apply to me,

higher heart rates while sleeping

Foxy with a history of stents and coronary artery disease, I would get some checks, if this continues to occur.   Maybe another echocardiogram?

Your heart rate isn’t that high, but with heart disease which is not well controlled you may get symptoms with those higher nocturnal rates. You could also get tested for sleep apnea if your events seem to happen only at night.  Sleep apnea can be the first condition our doctors look for when we wake up in distress.

No harm in watching it.  My doctors said in the context of coronary artery disease, which I clearly don't have now, my resting heart rate at 80 bpm would be too high.

Increased HR while asleep

Given your history of CAD and h/o ventricular standstill, I would transmit the data to the EP/Cardiologist to see if you had any arrhythmias during those times. That way, you can at least sleep better once you find out it is nothing to be worried about!

Thanks for your advice on this

I did a remote check to cardio office they said it wasn't worryingly high (109 for over 30 minutes)  my resting heart rate is normally 50bpm hence my concern there were no arythmias apparently

next check is October  I will keep an eye on it all

You know you're wired when...

You have rhythm.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
