Welding

Hi
This is my first post. Hope someone can answer this question.
My hobby is building classic cars. Much welding involved. Had a pacemaker installed in July 2007. Of course my doctor says no welding. Anyone out there have the same problem and what have you done?

Welding

G'day Garret, I still weld, I try not to be too close to the machine though, but I havnt found it to affect me.
I don't do a lot of welding anymore, just the usual handy man stuff and repairs to things while working at sea.
I get close to big marine generators too with no affect.
I'v been a lucky pacer since last september. Wow just realized it will be a year soon, that went fast.
All the best, Ian
ps I restored an MG Miget a few years ago.

I did the only thing we can do, I sold my wire welder and my stick welder. I had been doing a fair amount of hobby type welding. I guess that is over. Oh well I was not too good at it anyway.

No more for me

Hi Garret, welcome to the club. I used to do alot of welding, mostly MIG high amp and some stick. Steel and aluminum. I also draped the cable over my shoulder and had my face very close to the work. I am not allowed to weld, get close to alternators or generators etc, even store security systems have caused me problems with the pm. Since we are all effected differently you will jave to see what happens. It is mostly light gauge steel I would guess that you work on. You could learn to gas weld. Good luck,
Boatman

I put the question of welding to an electrical engineer at Medtronics when I got my pacer.
For stick welding, he told me nothing over 135 amps.
I have been welding, but I keep away from the unit, I am tall and therefore have a long reach which keeps the actual arc way out in front of me, and I do not drape the cable over my shoulder. I also use heavy insulated gloves to break any errant electrical contact.
You can find more information on welding, chainsaws and the like by typing it into the search function at the Medtronics website.
I have had my pacer over two years now and I don't let it keep me from doing anything, and I have not had a problem with it. Rick
