Tingling feeling in my left arm

Good morning-

Brand new to the group.  I am 57 and thought I was in great health, only to have three fainting episodes and now a pacemaker.  My question to the group is that I had my pacemaker surgery last Tuesday and am moving about following the Dr's orders and restrictions.  My  question to the group is that I have some tingling (sp) in my left arm and am wondering if this is part of the healing process?  My left arm is the side where my pacemaker was placed but also where I had the IV for the duration of my four day stay in the hospital.  Don't want to panic.  I have my follow up with my cardiologist this Friday.

I am happy to see this group and the support among it's members.

Thanks,

Shelby

Yes please don't panic

Shelby, tingling was something I noticed while healing. Disturbing delicate nerves, cutting through tissue and feeding leads into veins and attaching lead tips to the heart may cause some of us trauma and we can expect sensations such as those you describe.  As healing takes place, the tingling should settle but it is something you should tell your cardiologist about on Friday.  They may want to do some investigations to look for any obvious signs of injury.  But please don't panic since these sensations can be very normal and part of the healing process.  All my nerve sensations (shock like, tingling) slowly disappeared over weeks, although intermittently occurred for several months just to remind me that I have a pacemaker.

Welcome to the Pacemaker Club and good luck for Friday

There are a wide variety of sensations you're likely to go through and not everyone has the same.  As Gemita said, they cut a lot of nerves during the procedure.  The brain assigns different sensations to these nerves so anything goes. The most common reported are "ant bites" and itching.  This may go on for some time as the nerves heal and the brain figures out what "normal" is, again.

But do bring it up with your cardiologist.  He'll most probably tell you not to worry about it. Perhaps that doesn't aleviate your suspicions now, but just by letting him know, he'll be more likely be on the lookout.

Thank you for the responses.  I followed up with my Cardio. nurse line and they also told me that it was fine.  Appreciate the support of the group.  Life can throw us curve balls, and this one I was not expecting.  Each day is better.   Love the support of this group, it helps even in reading the support given to everyone.
