All good, but...

Well, I survived the grapefruit juice scare! It did point out that, no matter how "normal" I may feel, there are some things to look out for. For instance, I was seeing a lot about how effective CBD can be for arthritis pain. Thank goodness I had contact with a reputable vender who said he would not sell it to me until I'd checked with my doctor--blood thinners are the problem there. A natural supplement to address depression has appeal for me, but St John's Wort is a no-no with Tikosyn. So are many prescription anti-depressants. Then there's the question of over-the-counter remedies for this cold/flu season...Be cautious, friends!

TLee, glad you suffered no ill effects from taking a drink containing grapefruit juice with your regular med, Tikosyn.
Pomelos also contain the same compounds as Grapefruits I have just discovered and I have been feeding them to my husband who is on a cocktail of meds that might adversely interact. He loves Pomelos and so do I which we always buy at Christmas. Mind you I don't think a few large segments of a Pomelo is as detrimental as a whole glass of concentrated Pomelo juice, or is it? I see both Grapefruits and Pomelos block an enzyme in the liver that breaks down many medications. Blocking this enzyme means there will be higher levels of circulating medicine in the body when eating these fruits with certain meds which can be dangerous. Always check with your doctor or pharmacist about drug interactions including those with food. Oh dear where will all this end?
I tried explaining to my husband tonight that we may need to avoid a few things in life from now on. He wasn't at all impressed and said, "well life just isn't worth living anymore" . . .
