Shingles Vaccine

Hello Athena, hope you are doing well.  Both my husband and I have had a shingles vaccine in the last couple of years.  We both had pacemakers at the time.  We had it as a single dose and only had sore arms I recall for a few days.  It is particularly recommended for the over 70s in the UK but I think you are much younger?

I attach a link giving some information about Shingles and the vaccines available for us in the UK.  Have a read, it gives good information.  I would be guided by your doctors as to whether you take it up if you are younger than 50.  I believe the vaccine has only been tested in adults over age 50?

Shingles

My wife has had shingles twice, once after being vaccinated.  As bad as shingles is, her reaction to the vaccine wasn't a lot better. She tends to have bad reactions to vaccinations (covid included).

Shingles Vaccine (Shingrex)

I had shingles once, and it came very close to my eye, which was scary. I did have the 2 dose Shingrex a couple of years ago, pre-pacer. My arm got pretty sore, and after dose 2, I got a few bumps around the injection site, otherwise, I felt fine.

During my 30+ year career in nursing, I saw many cases of diseminated (full body) shingles. I did see a case that affected the eye, and the ophthalmologist had to peel the eyelid off of the cornea, to keep it from scarring in place. That convinced me that I would take any shot that would protect me from that. And the pain that can linger after the rash clears, called post-herpetic neuralgia is awful and hard to control.
