FIVE DAY OLD BOY GETS PM

In yesterdays papers in the UK it was reported that a 5 day old baby boy born 6 weeks premature and who was diagnosed with heart block whilst still in the womb has been fitted with a pacemaker. This was fitted at the Bristol Royal hospital for Children. He was not expected to survive . He died 3 times after pacemaker implantation but now is going home after 4 weeks. The pacemaker was inserted in the left stomach area just above the belly button. This will be moved at a later stage to the usual position when there is room. His parents said "weve got to bring him up to realise he cant do normal things" . I think they are in for a surprise. Anyway I wish Baby liam well as Im sure we all do. Cheers Peter

As the mother of a boy born 7 weeks premature who received a pacer at 2 days of age (he is now 21 months and getting his 2nd generator & new leads next month), I can say that Liam has a lot to look forward to and very few limitations. Wishing him good health!
