Especially while exercising.

None

I don't wear a mask while exercising (ridiculous). In fact, I only wear a mask where it's required. Where it is, a paper mask is the easiest and not as hot but I wear one for such short time that it doesn't matter much.

disposable masks

I don't wear one for working out tho I've heard good things about the ones Athleta and Underarmor make. We stay in our pods (6x8' square marked out on the floor) at the gym and they keep all the doors open and upgraded the ventillation. It's probably still not the safest thing but I needed to get back on a work out schedule for my mental health so it is what it is. They don't require masks so I don't even try to wear one. When running it's easy enough to avoid people. When hiking, I just wear a bandana around my neck and pull it up if we pass people and there isn't room to get out of the way. Just for normal wear, I find the disposible surgical masks to be the most comfortable because I can tent them so they aren't touching my nose/mouth.

Masks and breathing for COVID

The easiest mask is the one that lets in and our most air and is therefore next to useless. It has been shown that it doesn't matter what the material is for the mask, most fabrics will stop droplets from spreading.

If you want some protection yourself then you need a mask that is close fitting. This varies as the nose piece should be able to be shaped to the contour of your face. The sides should fit snuggly and the 'strap' angle   adjusted.

About 3% of Covid infections are from indoor gyms.  Most choose to not wear a mask whilst exercising. I cycle outside without a mask. As I am classed as extremely vulnerable, if I go into a public place indoors I wear a P3 ( 0.3 micron particle mask which I had to hand for DIY- working with dust )- this has a firm rubber seal and valves with filters to let the air in an out- this is for my protection. If you want to be protected you need a mask which seals firmly around your face.   In general masks don't protect the user much, rather they protect  others as they stop droplet spread.

The wearing of masks was controversial ( if was thought that handing the mask was a risk factor for virus spread), now most people accept that this reduces the spread of the virus to others ( as much as social distancing) and masks should therefore be worn indoors  and when you cannot social distance with those outside of your household.

Presently,  I live in an area with just over 450 new cases per week per  100000 of the population and just up the road it is 650. The wearing of a mask  in shops is the law unless you have valid breathing problems.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
