Medical Clearence Check

Hi everyone,

So I have been considering applying to a foreign service fellowship with the department of state in the USA. But upon reading the requirements I saw that it requires you to pass a medical check. I was wondering if any of you know if my pacemaker would prevent me from passing one. I can't find any clear information online about the required medical check. I am not pacemaker dependent and have no other medical conditions that would prevent me from passing. But I can't really function successfully without my pacemaker. I would apprienciate any advise and input you have.

For details, I am 20 and currently a sophomore in college, and my underlying rythm is around 30-40 bpm depending on the day. I have had a pacemaker since I was seven months old. I am currently on my 5th pacemaker and it was installed in 2017.

Thanks for any help or thoughts on the matter.

Abi

That's something you're going to have to ask the particular branch about.  I'm sure there is no one answer for the whole government or, perhaps even the same department.  I can't imagine that Foreign Service would have a problem but any sentence with "common sense" and "government" in it is nonsensical.
